Hi. I'm looking to buy a serious bit of processing power more for data analysis than gaming but no reason it can't be used for both. I'm fairly clueless on the hardware side so any advice on the below list is appreciate.

CoolerMaster Cavalier 3
Coolmax 140mm Silent Cooling Fan 500W PSU
ASUS P5KC DDR2 + DDR3 Intel P35 + iCH9 chipset
Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 or Quad Q6700?
Chaintech 8800GT 512MB 256bit DDR3
Transcend JetRam 2GB DDR2-800 (x4) or DDR2-1066?
WD SATA-300 320GB 7,200RPM (x2)
LG L192WS 19" wide LCD

The max options are about my max funds.

erm... whats up with this thread? I am missing most of it? and why am I post number one?

you shouldn't have any problems running linux on that.

Quite a serious bit of horsepower you're putting together there. As long as Linux recognises the motherboard chipset, you'll be flying. Linux has support multiprocessor tech since the early days and there are proper NV drivers for the 8x00 cards as well. Enjoy it!
