hi all

has anyone had any experience with this type of stuff?

I'm looking at www.NCS.co.za - looks ideal for my sales guys (1 host pc, 5 or 6 users attached) all they do is use a point of sale & web browser.

What they don't tell you is the cost of the server hardware can match that of 5-6 PCs (I looked into this option for an internet Cafe proposal 3 yrs ago). This concept has its advantages so I'm not knocking it completely.

You need to find out if your POS software will work in this enviroment and remember you need to still pay seat licences for all your software. There is a misconception that you need to only buy once licence for these systems.

A Windows2003 server with XP clients is also another option.

Licensing is always a huge misconception. People assume that you can buy a single license and run it for many users. This is not the case.

I sell a range of virtualised solutions that could possibly assist you. XenDesktop, a Citrix product for desktop virtualisation, can run Linux machines on a thin-client (essentially a dumb terminal). One of the advantages of a solution of this nature is that it is easy to manage. You essentially create a single image and push it out to each terminal. If something packs up on the terminal, simply reboot and a fresh, working, image is pushed down.

Cost of the Citrix software and terminal is around 1/3 the cost of new PC with AV, OS etc. TCO of course is far, far less than traditional PC as the terminal has no moving parts that can break, and the OS cannot be changed by the user, which means less support required at the desktop.

PM me if you need more information or visit our website below.

Also should mention that the we have a solution which is free for under 10 users if you interested....

This is GREAT technolohy and beats any other thin client / citrix solution out there. We were a big citrix house and changed to this product (speed and price). I heard that Vodacom were also using this technology for their internet cafe users with TrueCafe billing engine

Lol, and if the host pc packs up, all 6 users are pc-less ... :)
