Detecting the next mega earthquake

Researchers in Japan have for the first time detected and traced shallow tremors under the ocean that could be a sign that the country is heading towards a huge earthquake.

Detecting the next big earthquake is more guess than science. The tremors they are detecting could be tens of thousands of years away in the future, tomorrow or a million years from now. The best that can be done is to improve architecture to withstand it and comprehensive disaster planning.
