Hey all,

Im using regular dial-up and usually got decent connection speeds but from just the other day the quality of the line suddenly dropped and now i cant connect at anything better than about 20kbps.

My first guess is that telkom's gone and shared the line wih some other noob nearby, as was the case many years ago before i actually asked them to change it.

I havnt phoned telkom yet cause i'm expecting them to say its tough titties as long as you can still make phone calls. Any1 know if they'll actually do something about it?

Or does any1 have another explanation/solution to my new ultra crap internet experience?

my 56k line speed also recently dropped from 48.8k to 38.8k last week. This really sucks man!!!, AND OUR o so great telecommunications company could give flying f**k about it!!!

Dont just give up. Try find out where your local Telkom depot is and go there and chat to the guys. They should test your line from the depot and if they find nothing they should come out to your place and check. Some of the techs are really nice (in spite of their ulterior motives heheh)

I agree...The Techs that come here are very helpful bearing in mind they can help you so far...But for your problem they would be opliging...and yes catch them when they at the depot, I have and they have been helpful...

I had a similar thing. It was pretty bad to start with but it suddenly got to a stage where I could never connect at more than 16.8K. It turned out I was one of four on a split line, but I could only get it fixed when the line failed completely and the tech had to put me on a new pair - he explained what had happened but I didn't get the impression you could complain about it, unless you can't get 9600bps fax through. :(
