Developers bringing the slums to your doorstep

Why you no look for free standing? I know they aren't the flavour of the month so you'd get a decent size for as opposed to tiny. Is security what you worry about? If so, that's understandable.
Security and the hassle of maintenance. I prefer to pay to have everything done for me, rather than dealing with the admin of doing it myself...

My shoebox is 80sqm for a 2 x bed, 2 x bath and it's a perfectly fine size even if I had to have a child. Sorry for bringing my slum to your little paradise...

So let us take your "slum" and put houses/developments of exactly half the value right next to your house. Let's call them "superslums" (please note all quotes, and a lot of sarcasm). Hey, let's go the whole hog: boom, you got shacks next door. You still singing the same tune?

It's all relative.

The least developers could do is provide big green areas even if several blocks had to share.

It's just concrete, concrete, concrete. No oxygen in the air, no grass under your feet, not a blerry tree in sight. People like rats in a cage.

Despite all the rage :)

True

Our first place was s 83sqm flat. 3 bedroom 2 bathroom. Plenty of space, compared to today's flat, sizes.

Think mauma does not know what a 75sqm flat actually looks like

Agreed, maintenance is a pain. Weekends are pretty much a write-off.

I'd move, I can afford to. I don't consider myself to be above anyone else, as long as they have legal ownership of the land...

It's not only the size twaatie :D

Seriously though it isn't only the floor space. There's one carport, the ground level ones have a stamp sized piece of garden, no pets allowed. Where do children play? How often does a family, let's say parents and one child, trek down passages/steps/lifts to empty their garbage?

The same questions can be applied to any city around the world. As space starts running out, the only alternative is to make the most of the available space. Plenty of people raising families in apartments around the world and they seem to be doing just fine. We're only just beginning to get to where they've been for a while. Believe it or not, this will actually increase the value of your land in the long run...

I'm unmarried and have no kids. I need a starter home that I can rent out if need be and isn't unnecessarily big.
Also how much are house prices now? Buying an apartment/simplex or duplex in a complex is hard enough if you are single and young. A house? Under 1.1mil? Forget :p

True it's all over the world but it's just starting here, haven't they learnt anything? Provision should be made for open spaces.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm - but are they doing just fine :) :)

I hear you Pho3nix. Try to buy North facing so you get sun. Maybe others here can comment on West facing, some say that's better.
