Developers needed for Open Source Project: dt6 [Data Transferred - Stats In Xml]

I am keen, but would like a bit more info on the exact goals of the project. What is ur vision of this application?

The problem with having a browers base client side implementation is the need for web servers etc. on the client side.

I was thinking of writing a client side sample implementation of connecting to the web service, parsing the xml and converting it to objects. My passion is in JAVA so it would problably be in that.

well, on the web side, I can do PHP or Java and on the Client side, I can do Delphi

but I'm still keen on getting involvled :)

About language: there is only one thing that's set in concrete right now - the data will be xml.

I strongly want this client-side project to be platform/OS independent, so I'm thinking - browser-based and a skills & tech mix of:

xsd, xslt, xsl-fo, css, ECMAScript, etc...

You had me until you mentioned xslt... :)

Love to help but assembler and basic dialects are my speciality.

;) some people have have had xml shoved down their throats, which classify it in the same category as carrots!!!!

But seriously though, xml in a inter-company data transfer protocol really works, and thats just my experience!

was your dialer written in assembler then?

No, in Visual Basic 6.

But for the asm fans (there are some still out there!) here's an awesome framework to write asm Windows apps, made by Steve Gibson: http://www.grc.com/smgassembly.htm

At least I can use my asm knowledge with Softice and see and understand stuff few others can. Ahhh ....

Anyway, back to the original topic ...

I luv xslt, but I suppose I can accept that there are some that do not...

I have just seen it used so often because someone could. I really think it has it's place and uses but sometimes developers tend to overcomplexify things just because they want to use it. :)

I wrote my first line of code at the age of 13 on punch cards in PL/1 on a Sperry Univac mainframe back in 1982 ... showing my age!

edlin is for sissys, "copy con" is the only way to do things :p

Funilly enough we were joking about edlin in the office last week, those were the days.
