Development Skills that are future proof

Half my time project managing/scrum mastering projects is spent fighting this type of idiocy.
I loathe giving business access to dashboards cause sure as **** within a week they'll be asking for this or that and wanting to use it as useless metrics so they can all stand in a circle giving each other a reach around, and sing about they can track the project and how it will all be done on time.

This.

So much of my time is wasted on this k@k.
Useless metrics galore.

Wow what a kark employer/company... bean counters fully in control.
They make us do timesheets... and they don't even check 'cause I tested them one month, they had no idea I didn't submit a timesheet at all..

They used to have us submit timesheets, but you are not allowed to capture work over 8 hours a day. Annoying AF.

Heh, this reminded me of something else. That company changed "owners" during my time there. with the holding company now being a big Indian company. Suddenly we changed from Outlook to Lotus Notes. **** me that was frustrating.
Then, if you don't submit timesheets by a certain date, you are presented with a full screen app you can't close or minimize where you have to fill in your timesheets.

In the end they closed our office, but the retrenchment package was pretty generous, so in the end they weren't that bad.

When I was still doing the consulting thing, I had a client insisting in time sheets at quite a granular level. End of the month, they'd call in the MD of my firm and go through the timeeheets submitted, with one of their senior devs. We would, for example, say that a specific task took us 3 hours. This dev would then say it would've only taken him 2, based on nothing more than the description of the task, and then they'd argue for a discount. This took pretty much a full day every month.
I really hated that client.

The founder/MD of ours left, so if the captain is jumping ship, then you can bet your balls more shyte is coming...
He just upped and left in 24 hours... big red flag that is.

DHA is giving me no end of grief with my passport, I need that to gtfo of SA. I am so stressed about police clearances and how long I am going have to wait for that...

Not a good sign at all. Founders usually love their babies and are really reluctant to jump ship.

I am really concerned, but I am now in the position where I am the only man left standing here. Emigration is still a good 6-9 months away, and from next year I have to homeschool because I cannot afford school fees

Is this company helping to take you over?

If you can't afford school fees, it sounds like they are not paying that well. I think you need to keep your options open.

The company is in De Heyden, NL and yes they pay for relocation.
I cannot afford school fees because my wife lost her job. Without the school fees we are more or less OK

Also, learn C/C++ :) I've been using them for ~30 years, and although I now do a fair amount of Python, the C/C++ code is unlikely to be replaced anytime soon.
More like never... (especially C)

Also having a good foundation in CS(asm, c, c++, dsa etc) makes it easier to switch.
