Hello Guys n Girls,

Perhaps someone on this forum could assist me. I have a Neotel Lite package, unlimited internet data. The speeds promised are 50-70kbps. However when connected with a signal strength of 4 /5 bars the connection connects @ 230.4kbps. I also had to create a manual "dial up" connection as the software did not provide a neotel "Username/password" feature. Apparently this is normal? Anyway, speeds are horriffic. Browsing the net is done at about 10kbps? Downloading is also slow, however this is obviously due to the slow speed that the modem is connected at.

Any ideas/same issue?

Thanks alot

Hi Adrenalin

Yep as shown on : Here
"Basic Internet use with peak download speeds of 156Kbps and average speeds between 50 and 100Kbps."
Basic Internet use with peak download speeds of 19.04 kB/s Or 0.16 Mbps / 0.02 MB/sec and average speeds between 6.1 kB/s and 12.21 kB/s

Actual experienced Average Download between 17 - 19 kB/s
Actual experienced Peak Download 28 kB/s

The 230.4kbps/28.13 kB/s is the modem's capacity not necessarily guaranteed by the Service provider's.

If you are not experiencing those speeds on the NeoConnect Lite you are most probably have signal or coverage problems and would suggest opening a Trouble Ticket with their technical support and YES we have to manually create the dialup connection.

Hi Adrenalin,

Firstly, welcome to MyBB and secondly, you see that line, the one in the distance, that's called a queue and WE (myself included) are all standing in it bitching and moaning at Neotel.

So to answer your question, yes, we are all having the same problems you are having.

With the amount of moaning about Neotel, the admin here, 'rpm' has or is in the process of organizing a meeting with Neotel which should be happening Monday'ish.

Hopefully after that, we'll have some answers from Neotel with regard to

Is happening on their network because something is clearly wrong!

I suggest sending a PM (Private Message) to Neotel rep with your trouble ticket number (so you'll have to call Neotel directly on 0800 333 636, suffer out the stupidity that is Neotel's tech support to get a ticket)

He can help you, when he gets time to check these forums.

Till then, watch this space... I've been screaming at alot of people, they understand the pain we suffer, but can only do so much.

Well,

I have a ticket number, or whatever they call that thing. so far the Neotel consultants have been quite helpful with me? Perhaps it's looking better but let's touch wood. I will pm one of the Neotel reps and see if he can speed things up. However I really do not feel that the modem should be connecting at 230.4kbps if i have i bar short of full coverage? What are other Neotel lite phones connecting at? And why can't the prime software be run on a lite package just as an easy way of connecting via username/password? I tried downloading the software etc and all i get is a "Phone not found" but that might be because i have a lite handset (The white one) and not a prime handset.

Thanks for the help guys.

gdiza, i've been reading your bitch session and i feel your pain :-)

gdiza,

You have a prime device no? What speed does it connect at? 2.4mb?

I'm on NeoConnect Prime Unlimited.
The device HAS ALWAYS connected at 2.4MB.

If only it actually worked at that speed.

Correct, however, my device shoud at least connect at 1mb... not 230.4kbps. Anyway they promised me a response by tomorrow. I will keep you guys informed.

These new users have no right to complain. How many times do we have to tell people not to sign up with Neotel, yet? If you sign up you will get slow download speeds, constant disconnects, etc. Get it through your freaking thick skulls!

Now now Dark Denim, take your pills...

Anyway, Neotel called Autopage and told them they signed me up on the wrong package and that my area was experiencing slow speeds due to reception or summin. So Autopage called me and told me i have to take the device back and they will cancel my contract :-) The sales person practically begged me.

To cut a long story short, my experience with Neotel customer care was fantastic! They got back to me when promised, everything went smooth etc.

any ideas what connection i can get now?
My Vodacom 3G 2GB expired this month... and i need a good cap, not some 3B or nonsense.
