Anyone have any idea why my gigabit network won't allow to me to select gigabit?

* I have 2 x Windows 7 64 bit machines with gigabit port. The other has no issue with me selecting 1000Mbps
* Cable is Cat5E (bought last week)
* I've just done a full re-install on the machine that is giving issues
* They have a gigabit switch in-between - but I removed the switch and connected directly to test. It still stays at 100Mbps.

Anything else ?

could be a faulty card or slot. test it in a different pc to be certain, could also be drivers, are they windows drivers or card specific?

It's an HP microserver - so all built in.

I just installed Windows, did no specific drivers - but from what I read, that is the correct driver.

Surely if faulty, it just wouldn't work at all?
Or allow to select 1000Mbps, but disconnect or not work when doing so?

Just tested my setup and it does the same, allows to select 1Gb but stays on 100Mb? and it's gigabit card to gigabit switch?

Yup.

Tried with the gigbit switch in-between and tried without.

HP N40L?
You have the same driver?

EDIT : Mine doesn't have 1000Mbps as an option

What kind of speeds are you getting though?

Never had to manually configure this in my life...

I've had this before with dodgy RJ45 connections. Try a different cable.

Weird !

It just started working
