I recently had fibre installed, with that I'm busy reconfiguring my home network with a bit of a hassle.
Please note that I don't have extensive knowledge when it comes to networking, so I apologise for using the wrong terminology and so forth
Before the fibre, I had a basic network setup with 3 access points that was routed through WAN. All access points had different SSIDs and their own IP configs (192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.3.1).
I'm now trying to configure the network so that all the APs have the same SSID and run pretty much as an unlayered network unlike it has been before.
My access points are currently configured as so:
(Vodacom Hauwei HG659)---LAN---(Netgear DGND3700)---LAN---(Netgear DGN2200v4)
Both Netgears are configured with static IP addresses of 10.0.0.200 and 10.0.0.201, and I have DHCP switched off on both of them. The DHCP range on the Hauwei is set from 10.0.0.100..199.
Here's the problem: any device connected to any AP via LAN works without any problem, but devices will connect with a self-assigned IP if you connect via wifi via the Netgears. Devices still connect to the Hauwei without an issue. Sometimes the devices will get a successful connection, but it will drop after a while.
I've observed that devices will connect for a short while after I have restarted the AP's, and that my laptop is more successful at connecting than my phone. Manually configuring the network settings avails the same result as when I leave the configuration as automatic - it'll sometimes connect.
This isn't an SSID related issue, as I have the same issue with all the APs having different SSIDs. It just seems like the devices aren't being properly assigned IP addresses by the main router.
Any help would be appreciated!
