With regards to latency... Local pings are a tad bit above ADSL and EU pings are about 50ms above a good ADSL ISP and equal to a bad one. A lot also depends on location though, obviously. But the same can be said for ADSL.

Do an international test?

I've tried Vodacome, Cell C and MTN and the spikes are just madness. And this was from 2 different areas in Pretoria (as I moved).

ADSL is just the best. It's stable and lowest latency.

Also, my latency on WoW is lower at home than the office's 100mbps DFA fiber link Not by much, but it is ^^

Yes...but the spikes in latency and the stability makes it useless for online gamers (for me and at least 1 of my friends at least )

I don't think your'e being throttled at all or your'e living next to a tower!

8ta here. playing today, as in the last hour, and I was getting 225ms on mobile broadband. currently sitting at 255ms. however, as has been mentioned in this thread. it does spike. still averaging under 300ms. evenings about 450-550ms

No 3g does not suck, it depends who you have it with and if its uncapped or not, if its a SHARED tower or independent tower. it depends on the weather as well.

i have Vodafone 3g and the tower is 200m away on a hill, and through my wall my signal is perfect with diablo 3 latency ranging from low 220 to high 460 at night when the servers are busy and its raining, ALL which is very playable.


Kids stop moaning, they did not expect so many people to buy the game and of course there will always be problems with a new game, nothing is EVER perfect in the real world, if you use twitter and follow BlizzardCSEU_EN

you will always know if theres a problem. If there is, then go outside and get some fresh air instead of ranting and breaking the keyboard (learnt from exp)

Blizzard is not my friend, they are simply a company selling a product, and a broken one at that.
I do not want to see error 37: server is busy when trying to play a single player game on a Sunday afternoon, and I do not want to go outside to get air either.I paid money for it. The only analogy I can think of to compare diablo 3's single player on-line depenancy to, is having a cellphone that must always be plugged in if you want to use it.
It simply defies the purpose...

An interesting article Forbes article claims that the on-line dependency is because blizzard wants to make money off the auction house, not due to piracy. and if they allow offline play then people will hack it and their auction house will be moot

correct on the online always thing. I would have loved the idea of an offline mode for diablo 3 but alas.
piracy is another factor although not as important as money making, darkblizz are forever trying to hack blizz servers and all they managed was an offline mode for beta which had 60% of the things missing (animations, items, quests) , imho its not even worth going through all the hassels and spoiling a top game for yourself.

Blizzard is a top company, and even though they make near perfect games, there will always be hiccups somewhere and patches are required. I will defend them only on grounds for diablo series and sc2. nothing else, coz i dont play shirt

remember the game is brand spanking new, just give it another 2 weeks or so and server side things should be ok, fiddling with servers aint an easy job, you get a lot of grey hairs, i dunno if you played black ops when it just came out ..... wooo dont let me get started on that....

If that is the case, then no more blizzard games for me.
I have a family, work and everything in between, so I'm not up for multilayer most of the time.
And when I do want to play, like this Sunday afternoon (when the kids were sleeping, wife watching series on TV which gave me about 2 hours time), it was error 37 all the way. That sent me over the edge in frustration.

anyway, add blizzard on twitter as i stated, it will help a lot so you dont have to sniff around for info if something is up.

same boat as you, free time is a luxury ! although dont have kids though.
