I know we have D3 official and D3 RoS official, but I think its important to have a place for people to talk about the PTR who DONT have the beta...

I dont have a beta key, but I have downloaded and installed the PTR and I am really enjoying it. I stopped playing D3 vanilla a while back, as it was getting boring. The same old, over and over and spending waaaaaaaay too much time on the AH, which in my mind is totally stupid.

Note : You dont need to have a BETA KEY to be able to download and participate in the PTR.
Note : The PTR client is entirely different from the normal one. You are required to download 15GB.
Note : The PTR client and the BETA client are the same thing

How do I access the PTR on D3?

Sign into your BNET and go to account management. Click on your D3 game that is listed

Scroll down and you will see an "opt-in" option. You need to activate the PTR, upon which it will give you an option to download, which looks like this...

Once you click the download link, you will be greeted with a screen like this

Download the BETA client to access the PTR. A small 5.5Mb download will start. This is the new BNET app. You can manage all your downloads and games from this app. Its great. From here you can download the 15GB, it acts as a download manager.

The PTR is loads of fun. Quite different from the vanilla in lots of subtle ways.

If you play at the highest difficulty level, you get really interesting elite affixes.

One thing that feels odd is that blue packs drop a lot less goodies than they used to.

It's great fun.
 
yeah, its definitely different. AgentSmith can also attest to that.

Even though we dont have access to the BETA items, its still quite a lot different, especially the loot and no AH. You HAVE to play to get better items.

The rolls on the crafted items are also fixed. Im currently using dual weapons, and both of them are crafted.

Only sucks that all this will be wiped lol :p

and you limited to trade for I think 2 hours after the drop. they really controlling the flow of items. the trade-only-in-party is gonna rule out 3rd party sites selling as well.

Just wish they would bring in the mystic for the PTR...
 
right, so anyone noticed any substantial changes in the balancing and loot drops in the last couple of days?

Blizzard are def mesing around with things. GDruid needed a hand killing Belial on Master. He was on 10k dps.

It originally made no sense to me, as AgentSmith and I killed with little difficulty the weekend prior. Long story short, he is going a LOT more damage now, and his HP pool is MASSIVE compared to what it was before. It's crazy. Im on about 19k dps, and after a good couple of mins he was down a 3rd... crazy stuff...

the loot drops are also different. I rolled a DH and played on Master till about lvl 40 and not ONE SINGLE brown drop :(

The weekend prior they were dropping like every half an hour.

I dropped down a level yesterday and started a barb.

1 difficulty level down and took out belial without much trouble.
 
Yep they tweaked the drops bigtime, they just messing around
 
Killed Azmodan with 10k dps no problem :confused:
Also got about 5 legends levelling my barb. Sure thats not 1 every 30 min, but I've never had things drop that often. You probably had a lucky streak of note, and now confirmation bias is kicking in
