Hi,

I assume some threads must exist for my questions, so if anyone is aware please point me in the right direction.

(1) Is anyone aware of instruction on how to pinpoint a latency issue on an internet connection?

e.g. tracert - but what would be a good server in Cape Town?

(2) Is there a way to confirm weather a bandwidth issue relates to the WIFI uplink quality as apposed to the pipe connecting the WIFI station or further down the chain?

I have a Ubiquity dish connecting me to a high-sight with 8mbit symmetrical service.

On my side behind the dish/modem I have a Microtik hAP router (RB951Ui-2nD).

Regards,
Fred

That sounds like wireless congestion.

Most probably some other WISP has built a high site between you and your WISPs high site and loaded it with 20 or more antennas, flooding all the frequencies so as to put the competition out of business. They tend to do that.

Go to www.network-tools.com

You will see a big red button that says "Go". Above that is your IP address. Above that are options. Pick "Trace" and click "Go".

That will show you how the traffic is routing to your router from abroad.

It'll also show the ping times and where the problems are.

We always do tracert to 196.25.1.1 - SAIX to check for issues.

Then use pingplotter to trace the route.
https://www.pingplotter.com/

That will very quickly show you where the packet loss is.
