I've seen it reported more than once, Apple only include sold units in their figures, preorders and inventory in store are not included. Nine million units had to actually be sold and paid for over that weekend.

"Did Apple actually released their sale figures?"
"Will/could Apple lie about their sales figure to make them look more enticing?"
.....many more questions that could be asked....

 They announced 9 million sales. That's sales figures. They didn't break it down and they wouldn't do because it's protected information. In the quarterly announcements, they will provide revenue and profit breakdowns to a certain level - but they did revise their revenue forecast as a result of the unexpectedly high sales. It's very, very unlikely that they're fudging the numbers.

It's just that in the past Apple didn't like giving out sales figures or sharing revenue figures.

bulk warehouse stock sales are commonly used to fudge numbers. Apple places an internal sales order to fill shops- viola

They announced iPhone 5 numbers, and they always issue revenue guidance. It's just that this time their guidance was conservative and they sold beyond their own expectations which made them revise their estimates.

It's not clear that this is what they've done. It's certainly possible I guess. It wouldn't be much in keeping with their past announcements. But by looking at the sell-through reports with US carriers, it's doing gangbusters.

Apple wouldn't have called for a SEC revision if there figures were based on fudging + plus what would the benefit be of fudging figures, when this would be clearly apparent in the next earnings call (28 October)

Plus they sold out their stock, which includes everything in the channel.
