Did Tim Noakes and Jake White get it right?

There were many salvos fired when Jake White, under the advice of the Sports and Sciences Institute Tim Noakes, opted to leave out his core players for the overseas leg of this years Tri-Nations.

At the heart of the decision was the advice from Tim Noakes that the players will suffer from burnout during the world cup if they were not rested at that time.

White took major flak for this decision but is it bearing fruit for us now when looking at the NZ and AUS downfall? We beat England 36-0 remember, the Aussies just got murdered.
 
Alot of flak came about because sa sent a b team downunder. Resting has to be carefully planned so as to not send b teams to 3N, and jake didnt do this. Its unfair on the other teams and the competition itself.
 
I think it was a very sensible decision by Jake White to rest his key players leading up to the World Cup. I think if South Africa do win the World Cup, there might be a lot more merit in the idea of not having a Tri Nations in the same year as a world cup

You`re right, they shouldn`t.

And it's fair to do the same in the Super 14?
 
Its not really fair in any tournament. In the future, perhaps tournaments leading upto a WC, should be carefully looked at.
 
The new zealand coach was right to rest his players when he did. Things have not played out like he wanted it to. But really, how was he supposed to know his players would batle to find form like they did. I still think he is an excellent coach, the all blacks are a great team who had a bad day at the wrong time. It really is that simple. They should keep him. Perhaps robbie deans is the only coach who may be better.

South africa on the other hand found form after their rest. It could quite as easily not have happened. But it was an educated risk, and well worth it considering our form.
 
I suppose it can only be acknowledged as a success if we are priviladged enough to lift the Webb Ellis Cup at the end of this competition.

I agree with Boodles, but then in the same breath the national sides on a global front have used squad systems for a while now although the Boks did push it to another level during the last Tri-Nations.

The norhtern hemispshere guys have religiously sent unkonoens on tour down south.
Take France for instance, they were hammered on their tour of NZ before the World Cup started in June this year,
42-11 and 61-10 to the All Blacks ;)
