firstly, if the car you have is not the best it could possibly be, you should not have bought it, you should have bought the best car for the money, simple logic. if it was the best it could possibly be and you then modded it to make it "better" then you are lying to yourself in one way or another (was it the best/did you make it better)

this statement holds true for engine upgrades, exhaust changes, adding spoilers, side skirts, massive sound, lights underneath and any other thing that you did to make your car "unique".

you have wasted money, time and you are actively working towards making our country a stupider place.

PS I feel the same about adding lights to Pc towers, overclocking a CPU, adding highlights to your hair, or any other waste of money to make something better for a purely Zef reason.

- Came with a freeflow - because %#@ mother nature and my petrol bill right ? Plus it sounds nice and loud, cause $#@ other people right, everyone loves noise for no reason?
- Installed car seat so my child is safe
- Every 20 000km I like to switch up the oil and the filters and the plugs
- New tyres! Fuel economy line because they're pimp right?
- New brake pads!
- I used to roll with a baby on board sign, but the ladies were literally dropping their panties as I drove past so I toned it down a little.

simple principle TBH. even if you spend R5 to modify your car that is R5 that could have gone to a better cause, a guide dog, a homeless person, the start of a garden to make this planet a better place.
and that is just the money, what about the time that went into it, what could you have done to improve this world with that time?

that is what my issue is, modding a car is something that is not only selfish, but is also something that disproves that you are a true car lover. will the car you modified win a prize at a car show (still selfish but at least preserves history)

restoring a classic to pristine condition is a better use of the time and money.

and yes I hate much, i am a very angry young man, with no cause to fight for so I try to spread wisdom on internet forums (i like pissing against the wind as well)

Have you done economics that you are an expert on allocative efficiency? Do you do any work in the field of economics? Do people pay you for your views on economics?

If you have such a problem with a freedom of choice perhaps you should go live in a communist country, or petition in Camps Bay or something.

Lets take my 325is for example, you do realise that when that engine blew the cost of repairing that standard engine far outweighed the cost of me purchasing a e36 motor and fitting a turbocharger to it. Like I said, you know absolutely nothing about the cost or what I did in achieving what I did, you are ignorant, and based on your ignorance, you are making judgements about people.

Now I doubled the power output on my old boomer... It is scary to drive and I can increase output 4 fold with a budget of R25,000
I have the money. I just do not want to get bitten by the racing bug. Not even mentioning ripping up the tar.snapping sideshafts, stripping gears and twisting chassis like koeksusters.

If you want a race car. GO BUY A RACECAR!

my primary car makes atleast twice the output the car made standard and I've been driving it reliably in its current form for 3 years. And if it should break, I would be able to fix it myself within a relatively short period.

I don't race by the way, so why would i need a race car? I suppose it doesn't matter that both the 325is and superboss were homologations.

look I am no expert on economics but it is still pretty simple logic IMHO.

and sure I have no idea what you did and what it cost. and I might be slightly ignorant, but growing up in Boksburg leads you to notice a few things about people modifying cars.
stage 1 get wifebeater shirt for when I am drinking Brandy at Preslies.
stage 2 get a air filter
stage 3 change exhaust
stage 4 modify engine.

at this point I look at the Toyota Tazz and wonder, why did you spend R60 000 on a R40 000 car instead of buying a R100 000 car that does all that?

let me ask you this and please answer honestly, if you modified your car because it was cheaper than repairing it:
if all original parts and the modified parts were to cost the same, and you could have a car that was in the showroom condition would you have done that?
 
BMW E93 335i...my mods and their ranking

1. BMW Performance Exhaust - best mod for any BMW x35i engine. Sounds awesome and reasonably priced
2. JB4 tune - its not just kW, Nm gains, you can program it to even control opening of exhaust flaps
3. SmartTOP mod - customize how convertible soft/hard top opens/closes. even customize folding mirrors, windows
4. DVDinMotion - stupid mod but its a simple software hack to allow DVD's to play on navigation screen while car is in motion

Only mod left to do it get heavier duty coils springs at the back, so the back doesn't hang like it does.

I am an expert in economics. I worked at the largest financial institution in this country providing the executive with research I did for seven years. I have three degrees in economics at the best school of economics in Africa. My honours paper was published by a research firm directed by Iraj Abedian- one of the leading economists in this country. I can go on and on and on.
