Did you mod your car?

I have let this this thread evolve and mature with trolling and joking. Yet I have not seen even a single post that refers to a single modder even hinting at upgrading the brakes, suspension, gearbox, or stiffness of said vehicle.

As far as I am concerned you are all a bunch of ignorant twats that have never bothered with thinking why something was engineered to its standards. Maybe the 335I BMW can handle the extra power and its electronics are advanced enough to contain a extra 100 KW. I wish my friend had thought of that before the highly tuned and modded Supra engine in a BMW 325I body caused some costly hospital bills, Before he felt the true power he had a head on collision with the truck behind him.

but before you make a comment like that, you must be in the know of each members car that have been posted above and the tolerances of each of the components that u mentioned for each of these vehicles....

that is what my issue is, modding a car is something that is not only selfish, but is also something that disproves that you are a true car lover. will the car you modified win a prize at a car show (still selfish but at least preserves history)

restoring a classic to pristine condition is a better use of the time and money.

and yes I hate much, i am a very angry young man, with no cause to fight for so I try to spread wisdom on internet forums (i like pissing against the wind as well)

If he should rather spend money on charitable causes than on a car he enjoys driving, then the same must apply to you.

If you ever have an alcoholic drink, that money could have fed a few homeless kids. You want to help homeless kids, don't you?
If you drive a car that is anything above what you can afford, that money could probably have built a house for an entire family. Do you like people sleeping on the streets?
If you have ever bought brand name clothing, that money could have saved the lives of countless dogs. You want to save dogs, don't you?

As for "modding" a car - you do realise that every Rand you spend on a modification results in a considerable loss when it comes to trade in.
I squirm every time someone brings in his modded Subaru, and starts telling the Used Car evaluator what he has done to it - each time he opens his mouth, the car loses another 10K........

That being said. I agree with the minority here. I would just buy something bigger if I need more power. This whole trick my turd is kinda daft. I can agree that if you want more power but can't buy a bigger one sure. It's however just as costly if not more so sometimes.

@ Saturnz, put a match to those stupid 1980 cars of yours and go buy an OPC. You have 3 degrees, not like you can't afford it.

I have already said i own a big boy cheap chinese POS, so....
the clothes I wear I buy from the Flea market (because its the best place to find Band shirts and Camo pants)

I volunteer at the SPCA when I have free time. so about one day every two weeks.

I am not saying this to try and portray myself as a saint, because I am an assh*le.

my idea of modding is the example set to me in Boksburg, a Toyota Tazz with stuff done to it to make it sound Zeff.

that is what the problem is. sure its a hobby, but so is smoking ( I am a smoker BTW) not a single person here will say Smoking is a good hobby.

No matter what kind of modifications you add to a car. there are limits as to what a body was designed to handle. Example. We all love those old Cortina's. Beautiful built V6 diesel engines converted to petrol with dished pistons. no matter what limited slip or locked diff you had it was still a solid diff. Any difference in level of road surface and the whole diff would tilt and reduce surface contact of the tires.Meaning under enough torque you will spin out. Now as far as the Granada is concerned, it does not have a diff. Thereby reducing or eliminating the tilting only to chassis and body twisting. I can go on citing engineering page after engineering page and show you it must not be done. You want to go fast. Buy a race car.It has power,stability and the speed you want to drive safely at.:)

Ever driven a Leon Cupra?
Hard as nails suspension, and 323mm front brakes. Handles like a go kart. Zero torque steer even with 517Nm at the wheels.


Oh I remember I also put in poly bushes on the subframe mounts to stiffen those up more

I actually understand allocative efficiency, which is why I have the cars that I have. I like the way people speak about cost but have no idea how much I spent on my cars. If I buy an OPC, I immediately lose whatever amount I lose when its driven off the showroom floor, then I have to buy another one in five years time as it goes out of motorplan, or purchase a motorplan- I will just make dealers like Fazda rich.

As for selling my cars, what is required is someone to come with physical cash and purchase the car- finance will be impossible. I appreciate how difficult that would be which is why I never bothered advertising the cars and I'm retired now, I have other interests and the cars are of no concern to me.

Does this include if I were to only move a part or two around?:twisted: Lets say move the turbo and affiliated parts from a forester to a 86gt. It was meant to be there, just some lazy engineer forgot to finish the design of the car.
