Didata tender brouhaha continues

Sounds like something the ANC would do. I hope all of this gets cleaned up soon because it could be really bad for the DA.

This is further proof that all politicians are corrupt. No matter what party, what they promise or whatever they seem to archive. They are all lairs.

It's quite a difficult one, seeing as they were bending the rules to get the problem sorted out quicker.

Seen quite a few IT projects failing purely because they either dithered or went for the cheapest consultants. You know what they say about paying peanuts.

I don't understand what the issue was if they followed due process? They formally requested a deviation from the normal tender process. It's not like they awarded the contract without doing so. Surely we elect government officials to make decisions of this sort on our behalf? If the current system wasn't working, and they felt that it was necessary to have it replaced as soon as possible, then what is the issue? Were they expected to continue to use a broken system until the tender process was completed?

Sadly that's how government works. In a perfect honest world we will not need all of this.
All we can do is dream of this.

Bad move from DA. Investigate and exonerate yourself would be a better option.

It really looks to me like the DA and DiData were just working together to get the problem solved as quickly as possible. I don't think either party were trying to enrich themselves in anyway. I mean, DiData sent out a team to evaluate the situation at no cost, and then offered to fix the problem for R4.3 Million, where Lefatshe Technologies' R10 million system isn't working. If anything, the previous contract awarded was corrupt.

I understand that the system wasn't working however if you have enough time to give 3 months notice to the previous provider to say you won't be continuing on their system, then you have enough time to put out a tender...

The current problem with tenders is that before you used to have the 80/20 split for price, BEE AND quality. With the 90/10 model they removed quality from the equation. So in all likelihood if they put out another tender, the 2nd cheapest (fly-by-night) contractor would stuff up the project just as much.

You guys are missing the point. Why is the DA getting rid of Molefe, the very same person who is meant to investigate the issue? If the DA had nothing to hide or just eliminated a few processes to get things done quickly for the good of the people, then they should not be avoiding investigation.

And what about other companies in competition with DiData who never even got a chance to evaluate the situation and put in an offer to fix the problem? Hardly seems fair...

And what's this about:
E-mails from DA councillor Johann Brummer to Bitou officials in December urged action to be taken to prevent problems at Plettenberg Bay's Lookout restaurant.
Brummer wrote, according to the Sunday Times, “Remember that Lookout is a Plett icon and hang-out of preference for some very powerful people, like Jeremy Ord and others who have supported us generously.

Which makes it sound like they got the contract because they have supported the DA generously in the past.

It's all looking very messy for the DA:

And whats this about?
Brummer’s American girlfriend, Debra Nicholson, the one who was also his PA when he was still the Speaker, registered herself on the municipal data base for business purposes. Du Plessis signed her application as a witness and then went on to approve the application. The municipality then entered into an agreement to pay her R8000 in December 2011 as rental for Gilomme’s stay at her apartment. Du Plessis approved the transaction without asking other companies or individuals to submit quotations. And he also authorized that the money be paid into Brummer’s bank account.

I deliberately mentioned Nicholson’s nationality because Du Plessis declared her as a previously disadvantaged individual in terms of this country’s procurement laws. This quick approval and status granted to Nicholson reminded me that it is always easy to arrest Africans as illegal aliens while an American citizen enjoys privilege status. This is the benefit of being associated with the DA.

Unfortunately this is a sad reality, power corrupts. It gets worse when money is involved.

Love how people don't even raise an eyebrow (anymore) when the anc literally "misplaces" billions of rands (in their pockets), drive provinces into bankruptcy and then crap in their pants when the DA tries to streamline a process that was probably bound to fail.
