There will be a clear separation between the water and the diesel/turpentine mixture. Water and diesel/turpentine isn't miscible. Water is too polar to dissolve in the hydrocarbon mixture. But if it comes from an underground tank, dispensed into your fuel tank, you may not see it. But depending on the amount of water present, it can be catastrophic because water has a very high vapour pressure, and large quantities can expand 1000 fold which can lead to serious engine damage.

Diesel cars have "water traps" in the diesel filter.
