Diesel vs petrol

Really glad this thread popped up. Since moving to Joburg I have been thinking of getting the 2014 1.6 TDi Polo preowned. Rare cars to find up here though.

Probably preference - but,

Diesel - generally speaking - are lower revving engines, have better low end torque, use less fuel and as oil burners wear and tear better ....

I drive a diesel to work and wouldnt want a petrol again. Personal choice I spose.

Well, what are the exact specs of your A6(Quattro)? Because, from what I have seen online, you would have been creamed.

2010 A6 3.0TDi Quattro (Clean Diesel)
180kw 500nm torque
0-100 6.1 sec

0-100 isn't everything, my pullaway is clean, no spinning of tyres, just launched with torque converter, Im everytime quicker than all the others,

On the skidpan I won nearly everytime, everyone slide everywhere, while mine stick to the skid pan through the slalom as if im on tracks. (Even without electronics its a much better experience)

On th Ride and Handling track, I won, "my koppie het my gelos en ek het hulle bang gery".

The only place they had a chance was the drag strip. The Lumina and AMG kicked everyone's ass, me and the Subaru WRX were the same, the BMW 330 lost bigtime, again my pull away, with the BM you just hear tyres, and only halfway through the BM start to play catch up, on the end of the track the BM was 5 car lenghts behind.

On the oval I think its more a trust / confidence issue, I can't say I won, i did 225km/h with 4 passengers, other people are to scared... Dont trust their cars,

Thats why I say, I came 3rd, the AMG and Lumina kicked my ass on the dragstrip, and the rest me and the Subaru were ties, and on the high speed and handeling track... Nou ja, I enjoyed my car.

Every car has its advantages and disadvantages. I can't drift... I can't win the 3.5second cars in a straight. But give me corners and funny moves, and I'll be ontop, as they spin out.

I think you're assuming equally skilled drivers.

Ah ok. It was not an WRX Sti. Still, the driver must have been pretty crap to lose to you on handling. As for you mentioning the BMW 330, I feel fairly confident in guessing it is an older model? Otherwise, it sounds like you were driving against chaff. No offence.
