Would you be able to see the difference in quality between a sinotec and a well known brand like (sony/samsung/lg/pioneer) LCD if connected to a laptop screen.

It would be a Full HD... just wondering

lol.... just checking, I mean..
that 24/26" samsung computer LCD is quite pricey, but if i can get a 32"/37"/40" full HD screen for between 4000 to 6000 (bidorbuy).. i'd rather go for the big ones (if there is no big quality difference when plugged into the computer/laptop)

Before getting my Sony LCD TV, I tried two Sinotec LCD TV's (same sizes). The Sinotec's both had dead pixels on the day I got them. I got the first one swapped for the second one. After the second one had the same issues, I got my money back, which I then used on the Sony.

of course there will be a quality difference - it's just maths!

divide 1920 pixels into 24 inches and then divide it into 42 inches! :p

secondly, the LCD's of well known brands have better color, but IMO I'm happy with the color of mine.
some of the stores i've seen that display the Sony's are very nice, but they put it on "demo mode" - and some of them are actually TOO bright hehe

I don't want stuff to look that neon, it has to look natural.

but they are awesome though!

You won't be disappointed gaming on a Sinotec, but know that it won't have a 22" LCD's quality if both have a resolution near 1920x1080, and know that you WILL need a good card to game at that resolution.

on the plus side, It can be viewed from weird angles with no color fading, like some PC LCD's have, and my Sino also has a uniform Black across the screen - both PC LCD's I have, have a kind of blue tint from the sides & bottom (especially at the bottom)

that sums it up from my side, anything else?

I bought my sinotec beacuase of price and 5 year warranty, paid R3999 for 32 lcd tv.
Sony was going for R5999, samsung R5699 at the time and only had 1 year warranty, next to each playing normal tv, xbox 360 and dstv I could not see the difference.
Do i really want to spend R6000 on a tv today only to have it outdated and old in 1 years time or sooner, the technology on these things is growing fast.

I know people who have spend R30 000 on a TV !
That is now ancient in terms of technology.
If we had many HD channels to choose from and unlimited internet cap to download 1080p series and blu ray off net, then for sure I'd go for a sony personally, but we are in Africa :)

lol lol lol

Good one timgaul ;-) Would be a funny sight though..
Reminds me of that movie "cable guy" where the little boy is glued to a tv from a small distance..

@ Hemps - thanks for that, needed someone to confirm that for me ;-)
I'm going to hificorp after work today, they got special on Sony 32" for 4799. might not be full hd, but seeing it's sony it could be worth it.. Other than that, bidorbuy also has some good prices on demostocks.. Really wanted full hd, but not gonna be able to splash out 8 to 10k in cash (seeing i only buy cash, I don't like nor trust installments).

each to thier own but R30000 on a tv set is only logical if you are extremely wealthy? im still damn pleased at my 42inch Sinotec.HD looks amazing - gaming on PS3 is superb and running my laptop to the set is simple and looks very decent.my graphics card is also very simple for the laptop.nothing special.

I would only ever buy a TV like this where I can see the thing in front of me, buying of a website, dodgy, what if you have to take the thing back?

plasma's chew alot of electricity though!
Already got a bill of 3k monthly. i don't need another R400 to R600 just to have a plasma screen which can just as well be a 40" LCD and only pay R100 - R200 (I estimate)

I think that's rather over estimated unless its on 24/7. My plasma is on about 50 hours a week & my account averages around R500, & we dont sit in the dark, eat take aways & have cold showers ;)

Plasma is better than LCD until OLED becomes cheap at 42inches in full HD. However it also depends on which plasma and which LCD. Panasonic has some really cool plasmas out - not in SA yet - but they're coming. They will be very expensive in SA though - double price.

Excellent price. What model is it?Just curiosity. As far as the Plasma using more electricity than LCD while I don't dispute the fact,my electricity bill has decreased by R234.00 p/m since I purchased the Plasma TV.Could be they read my meter earlier than usual.I have my doubts about a R500.00 to R600.00 saving on an electricity bill due to a Plasma being used.

New World in Menlyn actually has the Panasonic TC-P54Z1 on display. That is the latest flagship model, going for R45 000. Price is actually not bad considering that the RRP in the US is $6000. Of course over there the specials go down to about $4000. The V10 models are basically just as good as the Z1, just not as thin and does not come with the wireless HDMI bit the Z1 has. The 54V10 should be just over half te price of the 54Z1. I think New World also has the V10, but I did not enquire on the price.

I have cancelled my Pioneer KRP500M order until I can go view the Panny's, although I already know that they will not be nearly as good as the KRP500M ( http://www.avforums.com/reviews/27/Pioneer-KRP-500A-50inch-Kuro-Plasma-Review.html )

hehe, its a 42"
So if i say R200 of my R500 is the Plasma which I doubt thats around R1 an hour. I would think its closer to R100 and 50c an hour
