Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone could provide me with a quick answer on the main difference between the processors below, which would provide better performance and the optimal use of each one.

Intel boxed Core i7 950 Processor - 3.06GHz Quad-Core
http://www.prophecy.co.za/intel-boxed-core-processor-306ghz-quad-core-p-51260.html

Intel i7/Nehalem 950 - Quad-Core + Hyperthreading/8 threads

Many thanks, Rudi

Uhm, as far as I know there is only one i7-950 and those links are the same CPU so there would be no differences.

The Nehalem supports faster memory (1333), and has Hyperthreading - which essentially optimises the scheduling of threads for execution at the processor and increases performance by 15-30% depending on the application.

Is this for your new workstation?

So they are not the same?

Dude, they are the exact same CPU. All i7' are based on the nehalem architecture conrad and to the best of my knowledge and according to intels site and wiki only the extreme editions of the 9xx series CPU's (965, 975) offer official DDR3-1333 support all others are official 1066.

The hyperthreading is also a standerd on i7 CPU's... they all have hyperthreading.

I would bet it is simply an error on prophecy as those CPU's are identical.

Order the cheaper one and then wait for the call from them saying it is the same thing. :)

Could just be from 2 different suppliers hence the difference in part number as well.

+1 for i7 hyperthreading
as for the others...

Socket 1156
Quad core i7-8xx (Lynnfield) = hyperthreading
Quad core i5-7xx (Lynnfield) = no hyperthreading
Dual core i5-5xx (Arrandale) = hyperthreading
Dual core i5-5xx (Clarkdale) = hyperthreading (desktop version)

Both are still expensive. Go to IkonicIt, its cheaper there.
