If you want THE best motherboard : Look at the DFI boards...

I think www.landmarkpc.co.za is the official supplier in SA.

As far as I know there is about 100 times less returns on those boards than there are on ASUS, and BTW, they're also the best OC'ing boards :)

I wouldn't go for an ASUS board, my current one is experiencing problems with it's RAM controller, previous two died after a few months..
A buddy's died while transporting it, etc etc, the list goes on...

Recently ASUS hasn't had the best reputation in SA.
BTW : Gigabyte/ABIT/XFX/EVGA/MSI also seem to have better build quality than ASUS ATM.

So : Decide on your chipset, then buy a DFI/Gigabyte motherboard :)

/me looks at his Q9300 1333FSB running in his Intel DG33FB... Runs just fine ;)

Although I do see that I need to update by bios from v 0293 sometime...

Post 3333

Congrats on 3333. I am nearing 1000 now. (this one is 996). Made 99'999 on my car the other day.

Just said what Intel said. I am aware that BIOS updates allow newer chips.
One question though. If you buy a m/b that allows it with a new chip, what if you just bought it along with the new chip? Does it run at 1066, or doesn't it work at all then?

It will if you overclock it..

You can take those chips to equal the E8200's performance with the P35 motherboard.

Yeah, keep the 965 if you already have it.
I've heard of guys getting their E2160's to 3.5GHz..

So I'd think 2.6-ish would be a laugh on any motherboard, and stock cooling..

Only buy a CPU cooler if you need it. Also don't buy a new motherboard if you already have the 965. The aim is to get as much performance for as small expense as possible.

Clock the E2xxx to 2.6-3.0GHz, and see how it performs temp-wise, then add a cooler only if you need one.

Okay cool. There's a seller at SystemShock, from whom I will hopefully get a 965 board, E2140 and some ram. I already have the Zalman 7000AlCu - I bought it because I was finding my P4 reached 70degrees way too easily and it was very noisy...

I've just realised though, the 965 board I'm looking at is an Intel DQ965F, which means it probably won't oc hey?

Maybe I'll just try buy the CPU and ram from him and look elsewhere for a P35 board.

P.s. My current board is 915G based and is horrible.

Late June = the death E2140's production will be stoped :( http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7555&Itemid=35

Plus a E2200 is about R700 at http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/product_info.php?products_id=14703 :D

I've found my motherboard! Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L
http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/product_info.php?products_id=15794

I read it has a program (EasyTune iirc) and it's quite easy to get an E2160 to about 2.6GHz!

It's about R600 and DOES support all 45nm thingies.

lekke, nice price too!

Could sacrifice the OC' ability and get FSB 1333 support & 7.1 Audio instead of 5.1 :p - got one myself rox 110% more after the latest bios update!

So I've heard. Will my Zalman 7000AlCu be adequate to push it that far? (In an Antec Sonata case with pretty good airflow)

The 965 would probably OC quite well, being the higher end chipset from it's day? Or otherwise, I'll get one of the E21x0 CPUs, which will be cheap, with a decent P35 mobo, and then 1 or 2 gb DDR2-800 ram.

It probably can, but using a pure copper HS will be a lot better. Aluminium is not as good as copper.
