MC wants a good balance of down loads in place then every one can be happy so peeps get netlimiter to help

hey i wouldnt mind atleast a minimum of 20KBps tor torrents. but hey thats just my view. i guess it all depends on the network.

I generally wish we didn't have shaping but if it means I can actually use my account then bring it on. Hoping that after a few months people will not be downloading as much and the shaping will be less utilised. It's just the wave after the being starved for so long that is hurting DC, I'm assume.

In my understanding Digichilli is to ISP's what whore's are to the community - I know they are there, I acknowledge their presence but I wouldnt use em!!

Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaammmmm!!!!!!!!!!!
Please :)

The biggies are the steam client ports (first section) and I suppose (shooting myself in the foot) the "* TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)" could be treated the same as a torrent.
the rest should be low bandwidth stuff..

The ports:
Steam Client
* UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)
* UDP 27015 to 27030 inclusive (Typically Matchmaking and HLTV)
* TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)
* UDP 4380

Dedicated or Listen Servers
* TCP 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

Additional Ports for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer
* UDP 1500 (outbound)
* UDP 3005 (outbound)
* UDP 3101 (outbound)
* UDP 28960

Makhullu, thanks for sharing so much, it makes it alot easier to back you guys. Glad you guys are slowly getting things working.

Can't wait for the news server.

Your opinion might change, i guess we will have to wait and see. :whistle:

I will be blunt and say I am rather horrified to read this thread. I am also grateful that I cancelled when I did.

Dave and his team have been going on and on about how they understand downloads...clearly they don't.

What they have not answered is this fundamental question: Do you limit the burst / (speed of the line) based on the package the guy pay for?

I think the biggest problem is that 4 meggers is paying R250 and milking the system dry...

Most people with 384 line is looking like they are only getting the bottom of the dry barrel.

The reality seems far from what they promised when they announched this service back in November...

I got this account purely for DOWNLOADING and some browsing. Will this shaping regret my decision?

The answer to this question is simply yes.

At the point of authenticating, on the radius server, you are allocated to your package. Your package determines your min and max RX and TX speeds.

So it wont help you if you have an 8mb line and only subscribe to the lowest packages.

DigiChilli

Decrease more than what it currently is?

Haha - well it should increase it if you're getting speeds like I am, which are super slow. Didn't think of it like that :p I was talking about theoretically in terms of full line speed and the impact of shaping.
