Finally, the notice board where its all happening at...

Howcome this thread isnt happening on DC's own website? :erm:

Hehe, this thread is moving too fast for me :-) I return after a few hours to see if there have been a few replies, and there is always a few pages instead! :-)

@William
I use to have an account with them, and still only managed between 60 and 70 gigs a month on my 384 line. I get the same speeds at DC on my astraweb connection and there is no rolling threshold....oh and its R600 cheaper...big selling point for me

Yes, the R600 price difference is a major issue for most people. If you can afford it though it is difficult to find a better package for R999. The top 10 users for November are all sitting at over 700GB of usage ( http://www.axxess.co.za/uncapped.php ). There is also a thread floating around here where Axxess phoned up the biggest user of a given month and congratulated him for doing over 800GB!

Edit : My bad - forgot you have a 4MB line .......ignore my post.

Yes, the Axxess uncapped express must use a 4Mbit line for best downloading results, otherwise it is much cheaper in line and ISP cost to go with a normal 384Kbit.

We tested as many as possible of the 'affordable' uncapped accounts from different providers. On only one did we managed to get more than 80Gigs out of it in a month and that was starting on a Friday night and getting what we could before the rolling threshold turned it into mush on the Monday.
For the rest - even the unthrottled at night and weekends was an urban myth for us.

I assume you mean the max 384Kbit ones, as you refer to "affordable"? If you mean the ones that also allow for 4Mbit line speed after hours then the only one I have used is the Axxess one which I can testify certainly gives me consistently great speeds, and over 300GB each month on torrents only (international). I realise some say this type of consistent month after month torrent usage is also crap due to people never having enough space to house everything. But again for me at least, space is not an issue.

I think the Digichilli lower end packages are great for their price and the lack of thresholds makes it perfect for most home users who can't spend more than a few 100 rand per month. For me I will be looking forward to see how things go in January, especially at your business 4Mbit options. Great work so far!

I am guessing as it started here and a lot of people keep coming back. Possibly DC should see if they are allowed to link back here so as to show their more uninformed users what is going on?

Anyway, Ive been a DC MILD customer for a week now... So far I am 50% happy... which is cool, and Im glad to see every effort is being made to resolve the issues as soon as possible!
If it is of any help to you...
Google/Gmail is finally working somewhat acceptably...
Torrent have improved since yesterday! (I only have one file dloading though)
The whole week my torrent is set to upload at 5K max and only today has it ever been faster on the download than on the upload!
International browsing is ok in about 30% of my usual browsing habits...

Local gaming is awesome, local everything has been awesome (except of coarse when there was no connection at all!)

I use the line for work as well, I maintain local and international hosted websites...
I think I got about 2 hours of work in over the last week with this line!
I have been pisd.
This forum makes me feel better though.
Im sure many feel they are in a hopeless situation and would appreciate some kind of notifications and feedback on your part. Like a massmail or something?!
Something I would have appreciated in the week building up to today...

I am in Margate, KZN.

Thank you though, we look forward to the flawless and fully functioning network you are working on!

Hilly

Dave - I, for one, am guilty of forgetting that.... (in times of getting frustrated at slow speeds)

Thanks for the reminder - I am glad I have stuck around so far - Looks like we are heading in the right direction here.

Big up to you and your technical team (just Hilly?!?!)

A not so little one man wonder. We do also rely on upstream resources for stuff that we can't touch.

This is what he has done in 4 weeks:

  • Design and implementation of whole system spanning Cisco, Gentoo, IP tables, VMware, php, IPC etc. Forgive my layman's view.
  • Most the website, all the DB's behind the website.
  • Radius setup.
  • Routing.
  • VMware with all the compiles for system.
  • Squid cache and proxy, not turned on yet.
  • Identifying upstream issues.
  • Identifying issues in the core.
  • Working out how Telkom's ESR's work - or rather don't.
  • Full backend for call centre and staff reporting.
  • All the mass mails from the server.
  • Initial billing, Password generation, Activation, etc.
  • Support and back up for Call Centre.
  • Business Chilli Box.
  • And we're not allowed to say what else he's working on til Makhula allows us to say sumthing.

He's not thought of as too special tho cos it takes him 20 hours a day to do this and it may also give him a big head. That would also detract from the other 4 people in the company that are also quite amazing.

I fully agree...
Today I spent most of my time at the DC forum posting threads... its all I can do at the moment as its all that works!
Hehe, I cancelled all my previous adsl accounts (except prepaid Axxess) assuming that I would be getting what was advertised to me!

Now im stuck, bored, un-entertained and unproductive ...

If I had known (being informed) earlier about these issues, I would have kept my old service for another month!

Is this a typo?

Or are you part of some minimalist underground movement waiting patiently for a year just to malevolently drop these three letters nonchalantly in the mix and watch and laugh at the ensuing havoc?

:D

Humour is encouraged. Lack of humour will be met with Zohan-appropriate behaviour. i.e Humus.

12h00 DigiChlli update December 20 2009

Shaper in line with minimal shaping. Oxymoron I know.

But ask the techies. WTF.

He is a true one-man-band. I hope MC is paying him handsomely ;-)

Even set up an Ubuntu box to be my download slave, on Friday, in expectation of improved speeds :p Still having fun playing with it though...
