Yes, serious mental problems can occur if one does not devote time to one's mother... ;) ...and not just on Mother's day, her birthday and the festive season... :wtf:

Hey Mowgs - thnx for the feedback.
I haven't reset PC or router - everything works fine on Telkom ISP, just when when I dial-in to DC that news stops. (ok 0.9 kB/s isn't stopped, but it just as well could be !). I have closed & re-dialled DC connection several times.
Browsing also slow - like more than 180 sec.s to load ATI home page - & still not finished !

Dave - what ports are you allowing for news ? - ie. not shaped to all hell.

Pretty much the same thing for me, although I'm not downloading anything from news servers, just steam. Http went from being pretty fast and responsive to almost dead at approximately 11:40 am. That was just after Dave mentioned that the network would bounce.

News is bulked with torrents right now. We're gonna be opening ports and things over the next day. We're just watching what the total effect of the shaper is before we start fiddling with it. Makes it easier to fix when we break something.

Right now shaping is:
1. Http
2. Mail, imap pop etc.
3. Other.

Depends on Game's protocols to where they fall at this stage.

I'm getting hectically slow international speeds so we need to check this before anything else.
Local is still fine, so we need to check why international http is borked. I know we're shoehorning us into a pipe of specific size but thats not the whole story.

Route: Telkom -> DSLAM (IP handout issue)-> us/radius(auth timeout issue) -> core (DNS and routing)-> local or international -> SAIX or Netoel link (say no more)-> Seacom link, London breakout etc.

I think I've worked out why pings to NY are faster than London by 200ms. We didn't ask directions and are going to London via NY. Makes sense to me.

I'm only getting 1-6K, but 5fm is streaming well.

Browsing is very slow.

Will reboot just now and see if it helps. Usually does.

Hope Hilly had a great day and digs into the system, with a refreshing(alcoholic) drink tonight. ;)

Oh yes, you and MC too and the rest of the staff too! :p

Mine is still the same old 5KB/s I've always gotten :) But I know changes are still in effect and shall wait and see...

I really like the way you plot the route and issue. ;)
