No idea what happend around 12:30 to 13:10 today but since reconnecting local and international browsing is top notch for me at least! Youtube is also streaming beautifully. I've capped torrent to 20 Kbps while watching youtube videos for the first time since joined DC last sunday.

MSN & yahoo still failes to authenticate but overall its looking beter from my point of view atm.

yeah all good here to make me happy means my runes of magic updates are going quicker thx to the DC crew

Browsing is better. Downloading file thru HTTP, going at 27 - 31 KBps. MSN still can't connect for me as well. But Skype is online.

It certainly seems like DC only has bandwidth or management capabilities for half their customers. When one half is getting good responses the other half are complaining

At the moment Steam is not even connecting, nevermind slow, torrents have not risen above 1.5kB/s, downloading multiple threads from a local SA server gets me around 1.1kB/s.

Basically the network is completely useless for me :(

Yes I have noticed after the authentication was down and came up my speeds went through the roof, after 10min it went again dead slow. So there might be a bandwidth management issue somewhere. Or a bottlenecking issue

Can't local FTP, can connect, but transfer fails ! Remote desktop very very slow, and disconnects after. why are they limiting local?

With Getright, 4 segments, the download peak, when I hover the mouse over the graph at the bottom, is 67.4K and the standard level is 40.2K

The next down download reached a max of 58.1K

Single segment download speed is between 17-20K.

Downloading through my browser, gives only 5-6K...which slowly builds up to steady at 12.2K.

I'm on a 384k line.

Seems there is an upload problem. I cannot upload the pics 'cos MyBB gives me the error message that the file cannot be found, no matter where I place them to retrieve from.

Still cannot log into Secondlife.

I was just thinking the same thing. It keeps me hopeful & frustrated at the same time. Not sure if I want to pay for this in Jan or not...

It should be impossible for you to get over 48KBps on 384k, you should get a max of about 39KBps. Either you or Getright are confusing KB(bytes)ps and kb(bits)ps, or Getright isn't reporting the speed correctly. Or your line is syncing faster than 384k, to get those speeds.

if you do traceroute to www.google.co.za you will find that the problem is local as the bcs network responds as follows.

Tracing route to www.l.google.com [209.85.227.106]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 5 ms 5 ms 5 ms 192.168.1.254
2 24 ms 14 ms 13 ms 196-44-65-49.digichilli.co.za [196.44.65.49]
3 41 ms 44 ms 41 ms 196.44.229.138
4 1396 ms 2738 ms 2997 ms 195.14.66.13 ( it remains here or times out completely)

Don't know if this helps but hey at least someone said something.

Getright is accurate in my mind, since my line will give me 512k speeds according to telkom. I cannot get 4MBps because they say they have no plans to upgrade in my area.

The spikes in the graph, are the peaks.

PS. Uploads to MyBB obviously work again. :)

That peak you reached was a spike. It happens when a part of the file is cached on your computer.
Reaching 58.1KBps is also impossible on a 512 line, since a 512kb line can only reach 53KBps....
Typically 40 is the max on a 384 line with 39 being the average.

My status update for things I'm interested in.

International http single segment download is going at ~10KB/s.
International http with 4 segments is going at ~22KB/s
Local http single segment download is going at ~8KB/s.
Local http with 4 segments is going at ~30KB/s.

Steam is not connecting.

MSN is not signing in.

WoW authenticates but does not load the character selection. (I waited five minutes)

They have made some speed improvements but they still got a long way to go.
So far it looks like I will be cooling off in Jan unless they can provide what they promised.

512k /8 = 64KBps
384k /8 = 48KBps

eish eish eish

512k /8 = 64KBps
384k /8 = 48KBps

eish eish eish

You forgot about overhead

You can only reach 83% of your the linespeed on the TCP/IP protocol.
512 * 0.125 * 0.83 = 53.12KBps
384 * 0.125 * 0.83 = 39.8KBps
