There is nothing inherently wrong with your Samsung choice but in the compact category Panasonic seems to have had the upper hand for a couple of few years now ... although Canon, Nikon, Sony and Samsung fanbois might argue that point there is just something about the Lumix brand that makes their images stand out from the rest (in a very watered down competition ... compacts can't compete against SLR's Image Quality wise but on the other hand they have many other advantages over SLR)

I have a soft spot for the Panasonic Lumix TZ series (DMC-TZ8 is the latest I think) but that will be a bit over your budget ... you need to have a look at their FS series where I think the FS33 might still be in your price range. (Don't stare yourself blindly at the whole megapixel thing, it is not an indicator of image quality)

Don't worry about the battery thing, most battery packs are good for 300-350 photos which should be enough for a single session

P.S I'm not implying you should rush out and buy Panasonic, I'm simply saying please include it in your decision making process. Enjoy! :)

Thanks for the help i did look at the panosonic, but the sony is still my choice :) i really thank you for the help with the battery pack!
