'Digital divide' widens between rich and poor countries

It is shocking, but then this is S.A

Dude too many things are not said there.... but talking from experience we have been battling for 6 months to try and get funding so that we can put a wireless mesh up in the rural areas that Telkom cant (read wont) cover.

We can mesh a huge area at a reasonable spend within 2 months, providing internet connectivity for everybody who has no, I repeat no connection higher than dial-up, and they have been waiting for Telkom who say that they will only build an exchange in 4 years.
Now that is 100 000+ people who could have internet within a month, we even offered to provide all the schools and locations with free 96kb/s connections. (This is only for the area near us), so you can multiply this by every rural area in S.A (lol Telkom see the south coast as rural as well)

AGGGG!!! I get p**sed off writing this, so I am going to stop now, bottom line this country is mismanaged in all departments and I cannot see it getting better, stupid laws holding us back, regulations etc.

UNCTAD has already highlighted broadband as a vital tool in economic development, saying last November that it is so vital for businesses that it should be considered a utility comparable to water and electricity.

UNCTAD should tell this to Telkom, ICCASA and every other money grabber who are robbing us of everything, including any possible future growth.

the divide is just going to get bigger.rather uplift than drag down.

So even when offering areas with free internet you are refused cause the gov ain't controlling it.
