Ok most of you guys have dstv, but anyway. New tv has a digital tuner and picks up a number of scrambled channels, which I assume needs a subscription to view. But I can find no info on who the channels are provided by or how to view.
Anyone have any info?
Channels worth subscribing to?

We are able to see all the new terrrestrial channels perfectly (when they aren't messing around with the signal and eTV actually enables sound on their digital channel). Does the set support DVB-T2, or just DVB-T?

Off the top of my head, the channels are: SABC1, 2 and 3, eTV, Tswane TV, TBC (still a test channel), CTV, Learning and Health Channel, SABC HD1, and most SABC radio stations.

So the analog signals were supposed to be cut a few months ago, yet I can't find any DVB-T2 setup boxes anywhere?

Where do you live? Or rather, do you have a Chinese/Pakistani shop selling electronic goods in your area? I picked up a DVB-T2 decoder a few months ago from a shop at Sable Square in Milnerton for R600 (expensive). It's still very much a trial, so don't expect much in terms of content.

Which transmitter are you getting your signal from?

Not sure, how would I tell? In the randburg area close to Rhema church

eTV looks like a pile of poo. I sincerely hope they increase the bit rate on the DTT broadcast when it eventually starts.

Noticed that too. Also channel 34 and 33; 36 and 35; and 38 and 37 have different TV guides even though they are the same channel. Sometime one is even right! Well done SABC! Often big volume differences between the channels.
Same with the e channels

Agreed. eTV's digital broadcast quality is ridiculously bad. SABC2 and 3 look very good. As for the TV guide - it varies... most days only SABC2 has one, then they give only for SABC3, and other days it's almost fully populated.

I pray for SABC+eTV to take the plunge and broadcast their channels in widescreen. You can go to any shop, and you won't find a 4:3 set.

So no news on the scrambled channels? Surely someone must subscribe or why would they broadcast them?

sent an email to Sentech asking if they could tell me who the provider of the scrambled channels were. They asked what decoder I have. I replied it's built into the tv, which has a CI slot, so if I can find the provider, I should be able to get their Conditional Access Module (CAM). Think that confused them muchly, as no reply...
Will try contact MultiChoice next....

It's a test transmission dude.Once commercially launched Dstv will sell you a Gotv decoder and a walka for another mobile offering, different than dstv mobile...yet same crap.

There are a couple of beta testers out that receive it free of charge.Every now and then the feeds are fta.

Cheers. They have a long test term! Had the tv 6 months already.

Well, that's because dtt is not finalized yet.Dstv wants to be sure to have the dtt feeds unencrypted so that they can include it in their gotv.
And because one would think they are waiting for the upgrades to the towers nationwide.

Hmm, and yet DSTV is broadcasting a set of encrypted channels over the DTT platform using the old DVB standard. For what? The drifta possibly? Dunno. Also, at my location those encrypted Naspers channels come over much stronger than the Sentech DVB-T2 signal. Interesting hey?

Given that DSTV wants to only have FTA (unencrypted) for SABC and ETv but at the same they are broadcasting an encrypted signal themselves on the old DVB standard..

Am really looking forward to this one playing out.
