Digital TV standards row rages on

The battle over which standard SA will use for digital terrestrial television rages on, with a plan by the National Association of Manufacturers in Electronics Components (Namec) to contest a decision by cabinet in favour of the European system.
Namec chairman Keith Thabo says the group, along with organised labour, have engaged with communications minister Roy Padayachie and President Jacob Zuma.
The association wants cabinet to reverse its decision that SA will adopt the second generation of the European standard for digital TV.

These idiots are now going to lobby against DVB-T2 because its not going to fatten their pockets enough...

All in all a complete fail, and I'm sure once he convinces Zuma that it will "generate jobs" (line his pockets with $$$) zuma will reverse the decision.

But its OK... Then we will have "our own standard" which is of course better than anything else out there.... :wtf:

Well, if they decide to have our 'own' standard, they better call me as part of the team. I want to get in on the gravy train and I actually have the knowledge to help them compile the standard!!!

But, said 'Thabo' is a ****ing retard: "We could end up with our own standard that can be used to generate jobs and encourage small business". Sure, the only MINOR downsides to this is increased STB prices and a MASSIVELY decreased market (the only market is SA, not even SADC).

These Idiots were probably promised by the Mamodupi that they will have the advantage if they start manufacturing ISDB-T boxes so they can secure the tender when Government makes its final decision. Now they realised they are screwed because they know nothing about DVB-T2 and won't have the advantage at all. Think about it, If I was in charge of decision making I would make sure that the company I have interest in is one step ahead of the rest to secure lucrative Government deals. My 2cents.....
