digitalplanet.co.za ....

Worst online buying experience ever. I ordered an HP-branded Intel wireless mini-pci card for my HP notebook, which, on their website was listed as compatible with my particular model notebook, and listed as "in stock."

I waited a week before I phoned them to ask what's going on, the order is still showing as "being processed." After about a week of hassling them, someone finally admitted that they don't have the item in stock. To cut a long story short, three months later, after they had again told me they're still waiting for stock, I decided to pay them a visit (element of surprise was on my side), kicked up a huge fuss, threatened to take legal action against them for taking my money for a product they couldn't supply. And guess what, the card was there all the time, it just wasn't packed yet.

OK, now remember I said the card was listed as compatible with my notebook? Went home, popped it in, switched on the notebook, only to be greeted by a rather rude message saying something like "the wireless device installed is unsupported by this system - remove it" and there it stopped - didn't even POST!

Now, to put this in perspective. I ordered a 19" monitor from amazon.co.uk (while in the UK). Placed the order after business hours, yet I received the monitor the next morning - even BEFORE I got the e-mail saying my monitor has been dispatched. And this happened a few times - order something while online during the evening, and receive it the next morning. The longest I've waited for anything was a week for my DG834 (non wireless) which was out of stock.

Also a bad experience, I ordered a cable, which was indicated as "in stock". Two weeks later and two phone calls, nothing, apparently the supplier is delivering. When I asked exactly when I could expect my delivery, I was told "sometime next week". Not exactly great service if you ask me.

Digitalplanet, are you listening?

Does anyone know how this site works (or does not work for that matter)?

I've ordered basic cellular accessories from them twice (screen protector and styluses).

On both occasions the order where accepted and my credit card debited within seconds.
On both occasion I got an email a few days later saying they had no stock and that I would have to wait a few weeks or could cancel my order immediately and would be refunded.
On both occasions I cancelled my order (online shopping all about instant gratification isn’t it)?
On both occasions my emails about refunds promised have disappeared into what seems to be a black hole.

It seems to be a great business model:
-Offer products online and have people buy them.
-Hold the clients cash while you try to source the prodcuts (earning interest in your bank account).
-Make the refund procedure so difficult that a vast majority of customers simply give up and you get to keep the cash.

Make sure they refunded you, your money. If not go to your bank and request a chargeback. You paid, item was not sent out, besides they should
only charge your card WHEN the order LEAVES their warehouse, not
ahead of time. What they may have done is AUTHORISE your card
which only reserves the amount for a short period of time.

Mine was charged as I placed the order, the money is long gone...

If anything, I have found DP to be consistently inconsistent.

Ordered a laptop bag from them. 3 weeks later they told me they didnt have stock, and they told me they were not going to refund me, but rather issue me a voucher.

You can imagine what I told them.

2 weeks later I received a refund on my CC.

DP...Service, Service, Service!!

22/09: Ordered some ink from DP. It is a Saturday, I know - I don't care! There needs to be someone that checks the site out Daily! Monday was a public holiday - great.
25/09: Order went through as being "Ordered".
26/09: I give them a call to hear if they did something with the order like eg. sending it with the couriers like any sane internet shop would do (get the product to the client asap). No. I could expect it Friday, but they cannot give me a date. But it should get there by Monday. But she assures me that they will call me when the courier is on its way (there will be no one there on Monday you see). I watch the ETA Delivery date of my order like a hawk. It just remains empty.
28/09: CourierIT dude knocks on my door with my order. Unexpected. Without calling like they said they would (the lucky thing caught me while I Was at home). ETA date is still empty.

But this is still ok. I was pissed, but not as pissed off as this made me:

I had a R100 voucher with DP. They never stated that it had an expiry date or anything remotely close to that. When I tried using it a few weeks back (+-11/09), it just told me the voucher was invalid or did not exist anymore. Emailed them. Few days later I got word that [person sending email] is just waiting for the reply from someone about this.

I have since then not heard anything from them. I think That R100 got "lost".

not recommended... service used to be good a few years ago though...

IS smtp servers block all emails to their domain - url blacklisted!!
