Howzit ladies and gents,

I have 8 gigs of ram in my pc already and I'm looking to increase it. For now I wana buy 1 stick of 8 gigs and then save up to buy another 8 gigs.
If i had to put in 1 stick of 8 gigs in a dimm slot is it likely to cause problems having just 1 stick in the memory slot?

I assume you have 2x4gb at the moment.

No it won't be a problem to only have 1 stick in. Just make sure of the max ram capacity of your motherboard. Check compatibility too. Not all ram works with all motherboards

Installing memory in matched pairs will ensure optimum performance. A computer will function with only one module or with modules with different sizes or speeds, but performance will be less than optimal; furthermore, if memory with different speeds are used, both modules will be limited to that of the slower module. If matched pairs are used, they can work together to increase performance, but you can operate a modern computer with only one memory module. Check if your motherboard supports dual RAM performance. There are benefits on many motherboards to running matching pairs.

Depends if your motherboard has a memory limit, best to check on the manufacturers website.
