I recently bought a bunch of these to try out at home:

I was not expecting much given the price, but I've been helluva impressed thus far. To my eye (and my wife's eye), they were as bright as the 15W CFLs that they replaced, and the colour temp is pleasing.

However, as with most E27 LED bulbs, they are not dimmable, and I unfortunately have two rooms on a dimmer (which I'd like to keep). Makro sells these which are apparently dimmable:

Any idea whether it is as simple as replacing the existing incandescent bulbs with these? I'm reading things about requiring a special LED dimmer switch, and/or needing to calculate the total load etc.

I have the Osrams installed, I just replaced the old incandescent bulb and they dim same way.

I bought some cheap LED from BoB, cheapstuff chinese led's, burned half of the led's of them, smells up the place. Then I bought the osrams last year, no props so far.

My guess goes that LED bulbs cannot be dimmed with a regular dimmer, because they have a small power supply that steps down the power to LEDs. The LEDOTRON dimmer sends a digital signal to the bulb to tell it what brightness you have set. In my opinion a good workaround, but would be annoying having to buy specific bulbs for a room, because of the dimmer...

Thanks falcrum. I'd actually taken a look at this already, but I assumed the list of dimmers in that table were all special "LED Dimmers" rather than traditional incandescent dimmers that have been around for 20+ years. The one I have is most likely the cheapest, nastiest type of dimmer that was available when the place was built.

Mine is an old dimmer installed back in the mid 90's, like I said, it's wrking with Osram.
