wahahahaha...

what goes around... goes around and around...

I can't believe that people are still using archaic pure centralized and hybrid scattered/centralized systems for resource aquirement. Wake up and smell the coffee, people, self-organizing networks are the future... BitTorrent, DirectConnect, etc. are *not* generic content sharing / aquisition systems, and they are being completely misuesd.

Right - as are CPU-sharing mechanisms a la OpenMosix and the current thing being punted by IBM and others (I think their coined term is 'grid computing')...

True - haven't yet had a chance to get my hands dirty, though. Busy putting a machine together that'll suffice - geesh, I already have 4 units and a laptop on my personal network!

three words: What is Plan9?

could you expand a bit, maybe a link/2 [:D]

No one can tell you what Plan9 is, you have to experience it for your self.

wow this thread quickly degraded into an e-penis measuring contest

There are several hubs in SA, If zahub is down connect to one of the other servers, they are all linked so you only need to be on one. Don't know if this info was posted previously, but here goes...

The Redirect South African Linked Hubs....1 GigaByte minimum share and 1 Slot

Xymox ZA Redirect Hub : dchub://xymox.kicks-ass.co.za:412
ZA Redirect Hub : dchub://za.bounceme.co.za:412 or za.redirectme.net:412

The Primary South African Linked Hubs.....20 GigaBytes minimum share and 3 Slots

Xymox ZA Hub : dchub://xymox.bounceme.co.za:411
South African Hub : dchub://za.bounceme.co.za:411 or za.redirectme.net:411
Qwerty 101 Hub : dchub://qwerty101.redirectme.net:411
zahub : dchub://zahub.kicks-ass.net:411

The Chat Only Hub : dchub://dc-chat.bounceme.co.za:410
The Chat Only Hub allows a share of 0 Bytes (No Share) with no searching or downloads allowed.

If you don't know what this is all about head over to http://zahub.kicks-ass.net/ for info on DirectConnect and to get a client whith which you can connect to the mentioned servers.

what are the current 'connection settings requirements' for zahub at the moment ??

I havent changed anything from my usual settings:
6 slots
160gigs shared

but i cant connect anymore ? always says, incorrect settings.

What ports should I open on my dsl router to use the SA Hub best? Currently 1412 (TCP & UDP) are open.
