Direct Internet Connection

Hi, does anyone know how i can get a direct interent connection, im sick of everything being cached. i cannot log onto alot of dongle based sites (Esp those which monitor IP adrresses).

How exactly does the Telkom WAN and DSL Structure work? Are we all connected to their WAN which is intern connected to the interent? Do we share IP adrresses?

How I understand it, is that on SAIX we get put through a "transparent" proxy. The proxy you are put through can change during a session. Thus, if you are with SAIX have a look at this thread and try using one of those cache IP's to keep it from changing mid-session.

The whole technical side is unknown to me, so this doesn't answer your question but it could help

You do have a direct connection to the Internet. You are allocated public IP addresses when you connect your DSL account and all traffic (with the exception of port 80) is routed directly to the internet.

The way that the transparent proxy works is that the router that telkom uses at the edge of its network on the international link redirects traffic on port 80 to the proxy cache. This is done as routing 'hacks' and there is no way to get around it unless you buy a sat connection that lands directly overseas.

The other alternative is to connect to whatever you need to connect to on a port other than port 80. I know that many services that have the strict IP tracking systems allow you to connect on say port 81 to avoid the transparent proxy thing that is common with a number of ISP's around the world.

Ok, so why does telkom cache traffic on port 80 whereas vodacom doesnt?

i dont think i can access those sites by changing the port, it logs on with a protection dongle. i just click the "support" button and it logs on to the site. i can log onto alot of sites like that but there is one of them that gives me a "wrong ip" error (Saying that my IP has changed from when i loged on) With vodacom, it works
