Disappointed in MWEB!!

You know, you are probably right. Their uncapped service is probably the best, but for me its about sticking to whats right. I am signing up for the Openweb uncapped, unshaped and will use a capped account during the day time if I need decent speed. Yes it is more, and yes less convienent, but I will not just settle. And I feel that in South Africa we tend to settle too much and that is why service is not a huge priority. If more people do what I am doing, then they would listen. And as I say, its not about the xbox or the router which is probably a piece of ****, but it's about doing your best for your customer.

Anyway if all else fails, and I am horribly disappointed with xyz ISP then I will rejoin mweb as a new customer!!!

They retain your details for quite a while, this was of benefit to me as I didn't need to resubmit any of the paperwork etc.

I honestly first read this as a free X Box and Router only to later re read and understand it as just a low quality and probably provider locked router. Many would say their uncapped service is the best, you should reconsider.

No the router is not locked. Its a Billion router with a Mweb label on the enclosure. I have not tried it but apparently you can flash the standard compatible Billion firmware.

wily me is correct, the routers are not network locked - we stopped doing that about 2 years ago :)

Lexian I'm really sorry to hear how frustrated this has made you, but I really hope that you will reconsider putting yourself through the stress of changing service providers because of this experience.

I do completely understand the situation from your point of view. I've been a member at 'a certain gym' for a couple of years now and when I hear their radio promotions giving away sports bags to new members I immediately feel annoyed because they've never given me a free sports bag!

It is a fact though, speaking very candidly, that these types of promotional bundles and incentives for new sign ups are very much a part of the standard marketing toolkit for any big organisation and often these deals are subsidized by marketing budgets. To offer the same promotions or giveaways to your entire customer base would end up having very different cost implications.

This is not for an instant to say that we do not value our existing customers and try to find ways to thank them for their loyalty - for example we had some very nice competitions running just recently giving away iPads and great cash prizes to MWEB customers only.

I will definitely share your feedback and experience with our marketing team as it is important for them to know how our customers react to these campaigns for future improvements.

Kind Regards
Will

I agree with this statement, but I also think you chose the wrong issue to base your stand on. If it was a case of new users getting better pricing/performance compared to existing users, then I would understand your point of view.

Anyway, it's your life and your money. Fortunately Openweb is a pretty good ISP.

Hi Will, if I may comment. The key is that the Xbox and thus router/account is for the kid, in reality that's a new customer but just because the dad, who pay's for everything anyway, is buying the items and thus when giving his own ADSL telephone details your system fails that important bit of information. So no one in my household could get any Mweb promotion due to the same ADSL tel number even if the contract is in their own name. Exceptions should be made in these special cases.

Fair comment wily.

However bear in mind that this particular promotion is dependent on signing a contract for a 12 month uncapped service, which effectively means he would be paying for two ADSL services in the same household.

This would negate any benefit gained from the promotional offer.

I see your point wily but from a business owners point of view its a little different.

Lets say he gets the xbox and gives it to his son without having to sign a 12 month contract. If at any point, the op doesn’t make a payment or infringes on the terms and conditions of the service, is his entire household liable?

The contract applies to the person signing it. How he distributes the promotional stuff is up to him but the promotion doesn’t need to cater for the specifics of a family. In this case, if he had four kids, would the deal have to be altered so it comes with 4 controls? Its an offer, unfortunately it does become a take it or leave it situation. I spend 11k monthly with vodacom for business purposes, however those contracts are registered in my personal capacity. They dont give a single freebie.

Just trying to understand it from your point of view.
