I have unfortunately been shown a very disapointing side of mweb, and want to find out if anyone else has experienced the same problem, and ask for suggestions for new service providers...

I have an IT consultancy in Limpopo and had my uncapped ADSL account for more than two years. I have always recommended my clients to mweb, as well. I have now seen a special at Game of a xbox that I want to give to my son and router if you sign up for a 12 month uncapped account at mweb.

But they refuse to give it to an existing customer. I feel that it is fine if they choose to do that, but why should I then remain with them. I have always been loyal to them, and they obviously do not care about the existing customers. I contacted mweb and they made it clear that they want to only attract new customers, but refuse to assist existing customers.

I am closing my account with them and going to shift to another provider. It is not about getting anything, it is about the principle that new customers are more important than old ones.

I would love a public resonse from mweb, but am not holding my breath... Also, can anyone suggest alternative ISP's...

Thanks

This happens in all different sectors, vodacom does the same....... As for alt ISP, i have no idea i doubt ill ever move from mweb because i havent had a single problem! You're more than welcome to buy my xbox360 :P

I do sort of understand where they coming from... but with vodacom, id doesn't matter if you a new or existing customer, at least they give you the opportunity to get a new contract, or upgrade... I got called by mweb, and they said straight out... Sorry, won't help you!! So, I have to move my business on principle.

How much for the xbox??

At the end of the day it's about the service you receive. Does MWeb provide you with a good value for money product, if so then who cares about marketing gimmicks, if not then by all means, leave them and find a better provider. I just think that it's a shame to leave a competent service provider because you want a free router and xbox.

^^ This.

If you want "free" stuff go stand somewhere and beg for it. If you only use a company because they bribe you to, you have to ask yourself, am I a scrooge?

I'm suprised that someone who runs an IT consultancy would care so much about some free ISP router, they're usually rubbish.

Hi lexian,

I believe a consultant has contacted you since your initial post and that your concerns has been addressed.

Reacting out of frustration/emotion will not end well no matter the circumstances.

Your bread and butter is dependant on the service your isp provides. As you have said, you've been with them for years. Would you risk losing business/income over this? Not to mention the reputationl risk that comes with dealing with an unknown isp.

P.s im not a mweb customer but i've been reasearching for a while now. One thing they do well is provide support.

You made the thread, vent as much as you need to but think about this before you make a choice. Your "principles" may be the only thing you'll be left with.

Who is the person who is paying for your son?

1) You - Then it is not a new customer as you yourself is already a customer.
2) Your son - Then it should be as a new customer.

Basically you are upset because 1 is true and no free router, right ?

Looking at the GAME flyer, it looks like one of those MWeb subsidised deals. (R1199 with the contract, R2199 without)

No he is upset because mweb are giving new people free good while they ignore their current clients.

The OP biggest issue is the rest of the uncapped accounts are rubbish for the same price, you have the choice of openweb gold but that comes at an extra 150-250 depending on the package.

yup fudzy except there is no OOB rate to rape their clients so it looks a winner to me.

I get that, but what do you want them to give to them, free routers each month?

Mweb is doing what rest is doing like for example telkom and their new clients schemes. I'd rather from vodacom, webafrica or mweb get service over free toys each month and maybe from time to time a free month for 10 users. or What ever other 'loyalty special'...

Only issue I read (hence my question) is that he didn't get a free router and now is upset. That is why I asked who is paying for the account Himself or his son. He is obviously more than welcome to go with web africa or even openweb. Do they give free goodies for new clients?

That's been coming since big black box days...

Well the oob rate is where they make their money surely? 200 rand a gb or something ridiculous, i recall a thread like that.

Well for the guys who are mweb clients but have no contract they should be given the special don't ya think? Personally i would just cancel with mweb and then get a new account under my wife g/f brother mother whatever :D

Agreed though they offer these specials on the assumption that they are wanting to establish new sources of revenue.

Well decision is made, and moving on from them. For me it is not the router or the xbox, it is about not getting the same opportunities that are offered to new clients. If I want a cell phone, tablet or the such, I'll go to a cell company that makes me sign a fixed term contract. I have no problem with that. But mweb is using this as a method to get new customers only, and I was told straight out, they will not compromise on this situation. In order to get the offer you need an existing adsl line, and mine is already linked to their account.

Yes, mweb has offered good service, but they are not the be all and end all.

Mweb did contact me and said straight out they have no way to resolve this, it is only for new customers... They were saying that they offered value added services to existing clients but new clients also get those services. As a existing customer, they should make the effort to keep me as happy, else I will move on.

As I said, its not about the money or the offer. I want to be treated the same as new customers...

Good luck, let us know which ISP you move to. I suspect you're going to be paying more.

This is what I would call a bit of a knee jerk reaction. MWeb has a clear policy re. this promo. It doesn't make them a kak service provider. Move on. Use some of your consultancy fees ( normally not small amounts I might add ) to buy a proper router like Cisco or even Netgear.

I honestly first read this as a free X Box and Router only to later re read and understand it as just a low quality and probably provider locked router. Many would say their uncapped service is the best, you should reconsider.

You know, you are probably right. Their uncapped service is probably the best, but for me its about sticking to whats right. I am signing up for the Openweb uncapped, unshaped and will use a capped account during the day time if I need decent speed. Yes it is more, and yes less convienent, but I will not just settle. And I feel that in South Africa we tend to settle too much and that is why service is not a huge priority. If more people do what I am doing, then they would listen. And as I say, its not about the xbox or the router which is probably a piece of ****, but it's about doing your best for your customer.

Anyway if all else fails, and I am horribly disappointed with xyz ISP then I will rejoin mweb as a new customer!!!
