One of my contracts with them expired during October, I decided I'd rather not upgrade, but go back to pre-paid because I didn't need a new phone.

So, today I went to the local VodaShop to "downgrade" my Top Up 135 contract to prepaid. They told me that I would lose my current number, because I can't downgrade my contract, only cancel it and then get a new starter pack. I find this ridiculous, the number I'm using used to be prepaid, I then upgraded to Top Up 135. So why can't they just reverse this process? They must be able to do it - they just chose not to. They simply want to lock me into being a contract customer for life, if I want to keep my number.

Also, the attitude at the VodaShop wasn't the most pleasant. Nobody seemed to care at all, it's not their problem. Nevermind that I've been a loyal client for howmany years.

I have just cancelled a contract with them as well, also TopUp.
Didnt want to downgrade to prepaid though. But they did offer me this option when i cancelled...Did it over the phone.

It is possible now to go from contract to prepaid!

Port your current number over to Virgin Mobile, you have a phone so you can have either pre-pay or month to month contract!

Not to step on anyones toes here but you could just port your number to MTN, Cell C or Virgin prepaid !

Easy as that.

Really, I was under the impression that you had to stay 30 days. Bah still need my morning coffee and the Tea Lady still not about.:o

:D ..... No Problem. AFAIK from ourside it's 3 months.
Who knows might have changed ;)

Well - Vodacom responded to my hellopeter post that I did. My contract has been downgraded to prepaid. :)

Thanks voda3g for also offering your help.

It looks like there's still hope after all ;)

Did they explain the reason behind their initial refusal?
