Discovery Bank

Have not read the thread maybe someone can just let me know what is the benefits of the platinum cheque? They signed me up today and gave me platinum. It seems lime a pay as you transact system? Some help and advice please

Cancelled my application with the bank. They lost or f*cked up my application so I can't login and they don't know how to fix it. Typical South African quality.

i received my new card yesterday morning and activated it. this morning I got an sms saying my discovery card transfer has been completed. I also got an email saying my invitation email will be sent in the next few weeks...

How long did the card process take?

Ok so I finally think I get it.

I chose Gold - and am on gold status based on info I supplied. I have zero spend on the card and therefore get zero benefit in terms of healthyfood increase. They told me I have to get to 15k to get 11% extra back. Or move to diamond status to get 15%. OR (when they enable or develop functionality) migrate to platinum or black to get to 25% increase in healthy food but this comes with increased minimum spend.

So unless I do some of the above, there is no point to me having a discovery bank card. And I don’t see myself moving spend as that will detract from my ebucks rewards etc.

Am I right?

Cos then I think I throw in the towel now and just do my “health” vitality benefit which is paying off quite nicely.
I'm similar situation as you but on platinum card and Silver status.. fuel is 0% and healthy living is 25% ( which I've been on for year's) so I also don't spend enough to get extra % off .so what's the point in moving up money status then? Am I correct in saying that if I'm below the spend band I won't get any more cash% back?
I'm waiting till September to see what the new miles program will be,if not I'm also gonna throw in the towel(cc only ) and try ebucks

You might as well start with ebucks, it will take you 2-3 months to perfect it. Suggest you get a gold account for ebucks

Does online purchases count towards your weekly money goal(the 20 transactions thing) or only physical swipes?

Have thrown in the towel. transferred money out now, then forgot i'm on PayT, so had to put 2.50 back in. Cancelling in the morning. You can probably do well if you play the game, but don't see myself being able to play both - with me already ticking the boxes with ebucks. I'm happy with free gym (apparently that's dying soon?) and 25% cash back on HF.

Got some of my pnp spend a day after opening it, where I haven't received in 4 months previously

Physical swipes only for Active Reward (weekly) money goal. If you don't get to 20 points they carry over to following week. Or if you earn 22 points, 2 carry over to next week.

Online purchases (also debit orders , EFTs etc) count towards vitality money (monthly) spend band - based on your product type + status.

I have Platinum Suite + Gold Status. My spend bands are:

Band 0 for
Band 1 for R5,000-R9,999

Band 2 for R10,000-R17,499

Band 3 for R 17,500-R24,999

Band 4 for R 25,000 or more

Thanks, dam I'm On 17 and purchased 3 different plane tickets and was hoping that would be the 3 I needed.

Is the band spend reviewed every month? So if this month I spend 5k and gives me say and extra 5% cash back but next month I send say 1k will my 5% cash back fall away?

Edit
I just saw their news letter and says
Activate your Vitality Active Rewards to earn Vitality reward points and diamonds. You also get higher-value instant rewards for swiping, tapping or paying online with your Discovery Bank card at least 20 times on your Platinum card to achieve your Vitality Active Rewards money goal.
So does that mean paying online contributes to the 20 transactions?

Its not the first time I've been told one thing by a consultant only to read something different somewhere else. Best way I guess will be to hear someone on this forum confirm that their online purchases counted towards their 20 points goal.

Im going through the same back and forth with debit orders. The website says you need to move all the debit orders yourself from your previous bank to Discovery. Yesterday a consultant sent me a form where they will asssist in moving all my debit orders and scheduled payments.

FYI - have called in now to close the account. Gave a reason; and apparently they closure department will call me in 2 days. He also made me hold for 2 minutes - so maybe they dont know how to log this type of call / request yet :-)

Anyhow - apparently its a over the phone operation and no forms to fill in like Discovery Card days. Hopefully its also not as painful as that process too.

My online transactions have been counting towards the weekly spend points.

I have however made myself a spreadsheet to keep track of everything and their system seems to skip transactions. Over the last 2 weeks, I have transactions totalling 16 points that have not been allocated any points towards the weekly goal.

16 that's pretty poor of discovery.so far I've done 16.5 (why they chose a .5 allocation is beyond me) and all 16 have shown..
I'm happy to hear online purchases count towards your weekly goal transactions
