Discovery Bank

I currently only have the Credit card and savings account. If i go to open an account the only type of transaction account is pay as you transact for R 45 a month. Is this the you took @PotatoGuardian

Nope, when I signed up the first time I chose the option to have all 3 for the unlimited pricing option ( I think I may have assumed the transaction account just fell under that).

But I only received a credit card, not transaction account card (debating whether I will still apply for one).

I think I signed up on the 24th or something of July and haven't been charged any account fees yet.

Still waiting for my cards to be delivered. Was supposed to be delivered on Monday, now will be delivered next Tuesday Screenshot_2019-08-07-14-54-22-930_bank.discovery.banking.production.release.jpg

Can't see your vitality money status, but on vitality alone, you should be at 25% from that status if you've completed your health checks and fitness check.

How do you schedule the card delivery? I haven't seen that option on the app.

Still on blue status, never really did anything since I selected the package I wanted.

They called to reschedule delivery date, not via the app.

Never buy from sportsmans, so don't do the fitness test.. But would jump through the hoops to get 50% off, then it would be worth it

OTP are currently only available via SMS, I'm traveling next month and may do some purchases online and I won't have roaming, discovery says they are working on it via email but don't know when, surely this should have been setup before they launch

Interesting. I only see flight reward? What would be the reason?

I have the same issue. I don't see any of the other reward cards in the app. I sent an email last week asking them to investigate and received a response on Monday:

"Please note I have escalated this for urgent feedback and will make sure this is looked at as a matter of urgency."

I think it might be linked to a big update supposedly going out tonight

I'll send a mail too. Anyone know anything on the healthy food card query I posted a bit up?

Where are you seeing the gym membership info?

Also I received my transactional card today and it came with a healthy food card, even though I have one through med aid. I phoned them and they claimed :

1. If I activate the new card and shop at pnp paying with my disc card my cashback will be greater than the 25% I get on the old card
2. The old card would remain active and I can continue to use it, earning 25% and paying with any card.
3. The amount more than 25% is dependent on account type and vitality money status. However the grid of what you earn more is unknown and not available.

Can anyone clarify these points, especially the two healthy food cards.

This sounds like the so called future of banking's motto is to make it as complicated as possible. To the point that one just gives up on jumping through all the hoops for the points. That way they don't have to give you the points thus don't cut into their profits but can still advertise the huge (potential) discounts based on the rewards.

So you have to carry two Healthy Food cards around: one for when you pay with the Discovery card and the other one for any other card? Wow, I suppose this could be their way of encouraging you to just move over fully and close that other bank's account...these people are masters at marketing and strategy ;-)

I don't think you have to carry both cards - you replace the old card with the new card. The new card is linked to your new Discovery Bank cashback %age (up to 50%), the old card is linked to your Vitality Health %age (up to 25%). As the bank one has the health one included, you only need to use the new one, regardless of how you pay, but you will only get the added %age if you pay with Discovery Bank(DB).

Example, in my case, I get 25% from Vitality Health and an extra 5% from the bank. So if I swipe the old card and pay with the DB cc, I only get 25%, but if I swipe the new card and pay with the DB cc, I get 30%.

This is all irrelevant to me though as my primary HealthyFood partner is woolworths which doesn't come with a new card. Pick n Pay remains 10% regardless of which card I use.

@Aharon hope this makes sense...

AFAIK with Woolworths they link your rewards via the Woolworths card - that is why you don't use the Vitality card at Woolies. Whether one will get the extra 5% at Woolies for paying with the new DB card is to be seen.

Same question for me, Woollies CC is also the Woolies rewards card in my case. Unclear how they will treat this.

I haven't had my new card delivered yet, but it appears that swipes on my existing Disco Credit Card don't fulfil the points requirements of the weekly vitality goals. Has anyone had a different experience?

Thanks, that's great, so new card always trumps old card? Does it only work when paid with discovery bank?

How do you know what % you get?

Thanks again @t_girl

Correct. Only on the new Discovery Bank card

Yes. You only get the extra %age when you pay with the discovery card.
The %age should be on the banking app's homepage under dynamic discounts.

And it's a pleasure.

Awesome, my dynamic discounts only show flights

Has anyone done the comparison in terms of features vs fees of the old Discovery platinum credit card versus the new batch of Black, Platinum and Gold Discovery Bank cards?

I don't want to switch and then find out that I'm paying a lot more per month for less. In theory, the Black (at almost double the monthly cost) is much better and worth it. Is that a fair comment?

Would appreciate a kind soul that has already done this research sharing... Thanks in advance.

I don’t think the info is available or discovery are very stingy with it and the info is all over the place and vague . I mean what’s the story with iPhones and lounges
