Evening everyone. My husband's work has two medical aids in which we can choose from and I have been researching both. The comprehensive scheme on discovery talks about the network which you have to use and yet you can't find out any information about this because I am not joined to Discovery. Please could someone help me out with the network GPs, etc. I am in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

huh? I/family used to be on classic comp and never had anyone on my case about this network story?

The lower end ones tend to be about networks etc...but classic comp is like 3k per person....one step below top of the line. Never had anyone tell me anything about which docs I may or may not use.

Then again that was a while back - things might have changed. Plus I think that might be a legacy option - i.e. the one they offer now might not be the same as long term members are on.

Is this what you are referring to...

" Find a healthcare professional who we have an agreement with. These healthcare professionals have agreed to only charge you the Discovery Health Rate and we pay them in full."

This usually applies to specialists and will be an issue with all medical aids. Specialists charge what they like, often up to 500% of "medical aid rates". This is easily remedied by taking gap cover at a relatively low additional cost each month. Feel free to PM me if you'd like more info on gap.

PS I can also get you a list of networked GPs, specialists, dentists etc.

Another thing, ensure the company is not referring to the Classic Comprehensive Delta plan. The Delta and Keycare options have limitation on the hospitals you can use. A list is also available.

You can see any doctor, but if you see a network doctor they have agreed to only charge you the rate that Discovery Health will pay. Log into the Discovery website and there is an option to find Network Doctors.

EDIT: Woops - I see you are not a member so you cannot log in

seems like they are offering one of the coastal plans.

It means only certain doctors, dentists etc. And also only certain hospitals, with strict limits as to how much they will pay.

Why not write the options, and how much, here. Then people can read and posdibly advise better....?

I'm pretty sure you can register and login for the information without being a member.

Have you tried?
