Discovery Insurance

Most write-offs with no TP involved occour between 01:30 and 04:00 and hence there is a concern from insurers. Some insurers apply higher excess's for this time. The future of motor insurance will be based on driving type by some instrument so we had better get used to it.

If that is truth then they better start making insurance compulsory, and not having it will have to be a criminal offence, else we will end up with more uninsured vehicles on the road IMHO.

Friends of mine have signed up and are saving R200- R300 on premiums.
They're still in their frist month - so we'll see what their driving style is like :p

Well it can't get worse than the figure they quote - so if they'r esaving R300.00 in the 1st month, that's worst case. It can only get better ....

They don't penalise you, but rather reward you

I went for this

Ins R570 p/m less than before (with more all risks). Tracker included so save another R200 + fuel back which if I drive carefully could be R 400 p/m (I spend R 2100 p/m on fuel)

Guaranteed savings R 770 + possible extra of up to R 400 pm

It does help if you have a full Discovery portfoliio though (medical/vitality/life/card)

A bit of a thread-necro, but I don't think creating a new thread is necessary.

A question for anyone who's gone with Discovery Insure and their DQtrack thing; be honest, how draconian is the rating really?
How lenient do you perceive it to be, and how's the feedback -- do you ever get an idea of what made you a 'bad driver' in a month?

My current Discovery portfolio makes this an attractive option, but driving in constant fear of reprimand is not cool.

And is any of the car telemetry admissible in the event of a claim? "Oh, sorry mr. Bromster. We saw you leaving Vuyo's shebeen at 3am, then doing 118km/h in an 80 zone before the offending vehicle allegedly ran the red light. Not paying out..."
