Discovery insure (drive)

Thanks, will give it some time
It is normally between the 10th and the 15th of the following month. So October purchases will be allocated between the 10th and the 15th of November. This is the one part of all the Discovery products that are fairly consistent and works well, at least in my experience.

PS the dashboard for the fuel rewards can be inaccurate during the 1st few days of the month, although it seems a lot better in recent months. You will get an email just before the allocation setting out exactly how it was calculated.

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it.

Will look again in a week or 2

So I was doing EyeGym to get Vitality Drive points. Holy smokes, I am bad. Got to level 8 or 9 on most things and then failed away until I finished my minutes.

I got the 50 participation points for doing 50 minutes across 5 days, but zero points for course completion. Discovery is supposed to improve my driving but now I'm suspecting I may be a hazard on the roads.

Hold on... How does that work?

What is eyegym.

Little games tracking fast-moving objects to “improve” your vision. Completing them gets you some points each month which in turn increases your rewards on fuel purchases.

Sorry for the slight thread necro.

I am with Discovery Insure Drive and will have excess points available this month for a fuel discount.
My insured vehicle is a diesel, my wife drives a petrol car (not insured with Discovery). Will I be able to load her car with petrol using my card, to effectively get discount? Or am I only allowed to buy Diesel?

No, you can also make your own.
Let the savings begin!
Nifty, eh? That's what this forum is for!

WHY BUY DIESEL WHEN YOU CAN BIODIESEL

They don’t check the number plate. But they do cap how much you can get back.

18 months later, here you still are.

EyeGym must have worked wonders!
My advantage is that I live in a neighborhood where everyone drives like a maniac. If everyone is a maniac, then no-one is a maniac.

Yes, that will work.

If you don't fill up at BP, is Vitality Drive worth it? Seems it might just be a nuisance more than anything.

Back when I had it, you could fill up at Shell too. Not too many of those around these days. I found it wasn’t such a hassle to find a BP, the bigger hassle is making sure you drive smoothly (although because the rewards system is based on the lower rewards earned between fuel spend and driving safely, you could quite easily get your rewards based more on a high fuel spend than driving perfectly every month). Like any points-based scheme you have to play it a bit to make it work for you, but it’s a good way to incentivise safer driving behaviours.

Anyone still with discovery insure ? Got a quote today and with the cashbacks they are cheaper but not sure if its to many hoops to jump through ?

Yip. The driving like an old ballie is the biggest ballache tbh. Best part is the cashback on your driving status, which you can use to buy tyres with. This to me has been the biggest benefit so far.

pain points
-once a year visit to tiger wheel and tire to get inspected (takes about 10 minutes)
-no hard breaking or speeding about the limit by 10km to ensure you get gold/diamond status each month for driver behavior.

pros
-fuel cashback pays for about half my premium. You need to spend R3k to get the full benefit as R1500 is the limit for cashback.
-R1000 off my 2 tires last month at tiger wheel
-extra play on the game board probably worth like R40 a month

The premium has gone up alot in the last few years in kzn because of a risk adjustment but when i check with other insurers nothing has worked out better. On average get about R1000 back each month, R500 pays the more expensive premium and vitality drive fee, the other R500 is free money. If i could not drive like a nice person then i would need to change.

Does only driving effect your premium. Was told by a co-worker than medical claims etc also effect your car premium. Said his child was sick and after he got over the counter medicine his premium went up, not idea if this is true or maybe was based on his driving ?

Hell yeah. If you know you drive defensively and you can live with jumping through a few hoops and not braking like a hooligan, then they are the best fuel reward out there.

Sounds unlikely. My wife is in and out of treatment and no effect on my car insurance. Maybe just coincidence in your coworker’s case? Anyway, if they push the premium too high, you just get other quotes and they either come back down or you leave. It’s just short term insurance after all - you didn’t knock them up, you don’t have to stick around.

Ahh thanks yeah wife drives a lot does like 30k km a year so cash back should be great. This was througha broker so will actually get a quote directly on the app (Think there is extra rewards in December)

Biggest bonus is not paying excess if the claim is not your fault, but gona miss my Kings Cab (Take me home service)
