Hi all..

Just wanted to find opinions on discovery's new pricing, I see last year they had a bracket for 0-8550 and the medical aid price was R990, in 2019 this bracket has become 0-13050 and has upped the price to R1456, so they state that the increase is around 9% but for a select few which earn below 8550 it has gone up by 32%, just want opinions on this as my wife is affected by this, due to studying.

Don't really think this is fair on those who earn below this threshold.

Thoughts welcomed.

If not that there would've been the standard annual increase. All i can say is find a way to pay the extras. Theres nothing you can do.

When I look at my coverage with discovery I want to cringe a little. Especially if you add up all your insurances you have to have. Comes each new Jan, well less and you have to make up somehow. So I can understand where you are coming from.

It's just odd that this wasn't mentioned, I expect a few people that do not check the contribution updates to be upset when they notice they are paying R466 more instead of the announced 9% increase.

Fairness works both ways. Ask the guys in the higher brackets if they enjoy paying more for the same benefits as someone who pays a lot less.

I always stay away from the salary bracket tiered plans. The guys in higher brackets are always going to subsidize the lower brackets. So there's very little value for money for the higher bracket guys.

I guess it's all relative, I'm just saying its a bit rough to up it by R466 rand for someone who already is in that bracket, If I were not to have researched the increase and informed my wife she would have not been very happy :D my personal plan is also not salary bracketed however value for money the keycare plus was the best option on a budget due to it's free GP visits, that is no longer the case, I think I will be lowering my option and putting my wife on my plan by the looks of things as it actually cheaper now.

Yeah my parents are in that bracket..dad is a pensioner mum is a housewife so i foot the bill which is currently like R2200 or something

next year its up to R2900

what other plans out there across medical aids offer the same benefits as key care plus

so far they havnt had to pay for any chronic or any hospital fees when used
