Discovery Vitality Flight Discount

So, I haven't booked an international ticket for a while and thought maybe i should visit family overseas...

As a gold status i'm still thinking i qualify the 30% discount as before... i remember getting like R3k off my ticket....
Much to my surprise when i checked the prices i was only looking at R1700 off a R11400 ticket.

I checked the breakdown, and it looks like they only give discount off the base fare which is usually half the total cost of the ticket... disappointed i am

Not sure when this change was made?? They should really change the advertising to like half i.e. 30% discount -> 15%.

They exclude the airport tax and all other taxes. They can't really negotiate on those.

British Airways fares comprise a lot of nonsense to which the vitality discount doesnt apply. The discount is only applicable to the base fare portion of the ticket.

Emirates doesn't have as many taxes and surcharges built in, so the discount would be greater than an equivalent BA ticket.

I have just booked flights through vitality for the family to London. In my case I did look around and could of got much cheaper flights (even without vitality discount) but the cheaper flights were generally through Mid East(Qatar, emirates or etihad) and the layover times were insane. So just booked direct

Discovery is not selling Medical Aid anymore, just Movie tickets and other garbage.

Usually for my trips I use www.travelstart.co.za. I put in my dates and destination and get an idea of which airlines fly there and price wise. Then I usually go directly to that airlines website and put in the same details and I find the price is usually a bit cheaper than travelstart prices.

And they have this booking fee that they now attach to each flight...defeats the purpose of discounts

The booking fee is small in comparison to the discount you get.

Just looked at the new brochure and I only see the 10x multiplier for kulula. Do we still get the normal vitality discount with it? If not this isn't good enough for me anymore.

It really depends where you're going and with which airline. The discount on Emirates is usually much better than BA. Also depends on how early you book - I'm sure there are only a certain number of discountable tickets available.

You still get the discount (the Vitality travel benefits are independent of the credit card benefits)
