Discovery Vitality in 2016

Hi chaps

Gonna try this out . Any downside/penalties to doing this for a bit and then stopping (if the goals get ridiculous)?

You will then just have to pay the penalty.

I got my watch on the first. Will this week's rewards count towards the payment plan?

Doesn't seem to be a downside. How active are u currently?

Not terribly as I don't do any jogging/cycling/gym... although I just did my fitness assessment and got level 5 bonus!?!?! Must be my kids keeping me healthy :)

That's cool.. not doing the watch thing. Just the smoothies.

Hey Guys, I took the plunge and picked up an apple watch today.

Good stuff.. are you planning to always reach your points target and get the full discount?

Let us know by how much your points target increases as time passes . .

Thanks - I'll keep you all updated...I have achieved 1 goal of 150 points already just by going to gym once..... I assume it is 1 challenge per week to make up the 4?

That is what we say each year, this year there were no roll overs...I hit my gold status in last month...so another year of diamond awaits me.If you regularly do the healthy thing, reaching their goals are easy peasy...

You just have to look at the system and work out what you need to do to get the max out of it... then change your behaviour.

What happens when a month has 5 weeks? Can you skip one goal? What does the T's&C's say? Is it 52 goals per year or 48?

No idea, I haven't activated yet . .

Quick Question: I currently earn my active reward points using my Garmin. If I get the apple watch as part of the deal, am I compelled to use that to track my activity or can I continue using the Garmin to earn the weekly points I need?

Also, if you activate the apple watch, do you lose the smoothie benefit?

Thanks

A bit off topic...anybody on the cheaper Discovery medical aid like Keycare Core, Essential Delta (Core Series) and Coastal (Core Series)? I don't frequent hospitals and doctors and I feel my Medihelp Necesse is getting expensive (9% increase in 2016, there was a year it went up by about 25%!). I'm the only member on my plan.

I still use my polar and it works fine. You don't need to use the Apple waatch to sync though

Has anyone else got any quotes to specify the watch on their household contents insurance. Got a quote from Santam for R81,59 per month with a R330 excess for the 42mm sport.

Any other quotes??

Way too expensive. I am also with Santam and have various house contents (laptops, cameras, wearables, home network) listed as specified items and pay R221/pm for R376,000 content insured (yes a bit over the top, but this covers lighting damage to equipment and other bits and pieces).

Week 2 and my points goal is 200 for this week. Up from 150 last week. Loving the watch so far, Apple just seems to get technology right!

Are those items covered if they are not in the house and in the boot of your car for example?

@robdarussian, your quote from Santam sounds reasonable to me, assuming you are covered for theft when not at your residence.
edit: Santam refers to this as 'All Risks' cover. OUTsurance use the term 'Out and about' cover.

lol, it sucks. Is 1200 the limit, or will they still adjust higher if I hit the target?

Household is not computer insurance when it comes to cellphones, notebooks, cameras, wearables etc. In fact other than theft, you may encounter issues when claiming for them albeit the incident happen 'at home'. I like that Discovery in kinda points to this directly rather than the way some insurers who don't mention it till you get told that its a mobile device and they not covering it albeit the incident is in the household. e.g. geyser flood killing electronic devices.. a sibling told me her insurer claimed it not covered because she needs separate cover for it.. so yah just becareful what is covered.
