You are technically asking for an explanation of Discovery's business model... *sigh* | Here goes a moderate attempt....
Vitality is essentially a Discovery members club through which you qualify for discounts based on what level you are on (Silver, Bronze, Something, Gold, Platinum). You accumulate points by doing the assessments, frequenting your local Planet Fitness or Virgin Active gym and other random activities to stay healthy (The logic being a healthy you is less expenses for Discovery). The more points, the higher your discount and benefits.
You'd qualify for discounts on things like flights, car rentals, hotels, gym fees and shopping in Vitality Mall (virtual). WRT to the Woolies/PnP discount - you have to nominate one as the primary shop. You qualify for a higher discount at the Primary and a lower at the Secondary. I think it is like 25% : 10% (well at least mine).
If you structure your Discovery portfolio correctly, the R100-odd you pay for Vitality pays for itself in discounts. Silver is the lowest level. Platinum is only achieved through maintaining Gold for like 3 years or something.
PS: I probably failed to mentioned quite a lot to the product but ya; this is the gist of it.
PPS: The gym benefit is the best imo. A R450pm gym membership is like R100pm! Granted, there's a joining fee of R800 or so.
