Hi there

I just want to know, if there is a way to make use of a dish (satelite dish), but without using satelite service? We want to put a dish at our office and at our building sites, but is there a way to create a dish connection directly, without use of a satelite?

And if so, can someone just please let me know where I can find suppliers who will install and configure it for me.

Thanx.....

It can be done unofficially - some articles on the web, but I cant confirm otherwise. I hear some guys been able to connect point to point over 20 miles with a dish and a tin can where the LNB usually sits.!

In SA ure not allowed to do that if I remember correctly.
But it can be done.

If you are looking at having say an 802.11g (or a or b) wireless bridge on each side it is completely possible. There are many articles on the web concerning home-made solutions using the Pringles can-tenna or derivatives thereof, some have used surplus satelite dishes as concentrators for the can-tenna as mentioned previously, and there are commercial solutions available too.

What you need to bear in mind is that 802.11b/g (2.4GHz) and 802.11a (5GHz) are line of sight.
