Is the general consensus to still go for the Bosch Serie 2? Or pay in R1,000 for the Serie 4 with cutlery drawer?

What about the cheapie Defy?

Both popular and well-rated on Takealot, with 3 year warranty.

Hisense?

Definitely spend the extra for the 4. Cutlery drawer is very good to have. For a machine you'll likely have for the next 10 years. No brainer.

The upper basket height is adjustable in the Serie 4 and the cutlery shelf removable. Best thing to do is keep the cutlery baskets from your old machine in case you want to use it.

never Defy, Bosch is great

but tbh Hisense is perfectly fine, have a Hisense fridge/freezer and a Hisense dishwasher while the oven, hob and extractor are all Bosch

no complaints about any of it

Granted yes, but without the tray you cannot wash cutlery.
In some cases where you play masterchef at home to impress the SO you use multiple pots. The top tray in series 2 can accommodate a pot and long stem wine glass at the same time while the plates, cutlery and pots are at bottom.

Tray cleans better.

My last two dishwashers were Grundigs (Defy/Beko). Great build quality and aesthetics, and 5 year warranty. The second one looked the same as the first, but was a fancier model with steam function that ended up not fitting our tallest double wall coffee mugs which was irritating – lowering the top shelf would then cause our dinner plates to not fit.

I’m doing a 180’ now and going for the cheapest dishwasher. What would the Serie 6 offer?

In my view the latest Grundig is the best build quality out of the others I tested. But a Bosch Serie 2 is half price, and being frugal can be fun.
 
We’ve got a Samsung dishwasher: it wouldn’t be my first choice, but it is hella effective I can’t lie. My girlfriend moved in with it so it was her choice, and it didn’t take me longer than the first full load to become a fan. Now I enjoy dishes duty … cleaning sinks full of dishes into a quietly humming and gurgling dishwasher is a joy I never get tired of. That and squeaky clean glasses.
 
I've got the Hisence, replaced my 25yr old AEG.

Very happy with it and had it for 3yrs.
